Why I'm Building a Fairmont

Some of you have questioned why I'm building a Ford Fairmont. Some of you don't see the point. Some of you feel the car is junk and I'm wasting my time and yours by making videos about it.

Some of you also get it.

This video is for those of you that either came in late, or aren't in the know as to what the capabilities of these vehicles are and why I'm building one. I'm not saying that they're the perfect sports car, if that was the case, I would have been done long ago. No, what I'm saying is that if you're going to build a 'sleeper' like I'm building, the Ford Fairmont is a really great platform to work with. At least in my eyes.

Intro music by Eric Cook "ETCG1 Intro".

Thanks for watching!

Stop apologizing and just put out what you want, man. People will still talk shit no matter what you do. I still like the videos

Hey Eric! First, the Fairmont is a great idea. Secondly, if one would put their thinking cap on. They would see that this build applies to ANY CAR! All the work done to this vehicle could be executed across multiple car lines. Folks have issues with thinking outside of the box. The interesting part is you are not even the trailblazer for this exact project. Oh well some like things all neat a tydy never venturing out of their own world. Keep it up Eric!

I love the fairmount, building a high overall performance balanced street machine with the perpective of a true mechanic is priceless!

Wow, glad I found you, sir! I'm about to buy an '81 Fairmont wagon, marginal interior but straight body with good chrome, running well and at a bargain price, but know little about them. This one has the Thriftpower Six and C3, factory stock and running well. It's an old man's car for sure, but then I'm 74 so it's appropriate. However, I don't like to leave a car alone. I want to swap to a Ford Big Six 240/300, for which I have lots of good bits, mated to a floor-shift overdrive manual trans that is gathering dust. I've been wondering where I'd find the manual-shift pedals and stuff to do this, and now here you are telling me that Fox-body Mustang parts will likely interchange. Great news, thanks again, Eric!! --Smitty

Thanks for the videos, you have inspired me to build my 99 ranger into a tribute and sleeper. It is in honor of my wife's grandmother who into her nineties drove like the "little old lady for Pasadena". Keep it up and just remember its all about having fun.

Eric, I agree with most of the comments here. You are building what you want and bring along anyone who wants to watch, learn or build along at home. I know I made the comment about the toolbox video that may have annoyed you but as I said in my second comment on the toolbox video I didn't mean to upset you. I really do support your work and enjoy almost every video you make. I don't want to be wrapped into the "troll" label. Build your sleeper. Build your dream. You have the support of many of your subs and myself. I won't stop watching. I am a Mopar guy and I own one of those near 500hp SRTs. Keep up the great work. Stay dirty!

Been following this build since day 1. Loved watching every step of it. Many of us home mechanic DIY'ers have or think about doing projects just like this all the time. And for all of us with projects that never got off the ground or made it to the finish line, we're cheering you on. Awesome work and can't wait til you get everything buttoned up.

Eric, you do what you like to do. If you're having fun doing a project, that will only add to the experience of watching. Your production quality alone is almost enough to keep me glued to the screen. Stay dirty!

I am nowhere near a guy who would build that car, but I have always said it would be the perfect drag platform.
They were stupid light for their size, so.., lotsa room up front but light and cheap.
Great Sleeper.

Personally I like the fairmont idea, the concept of a sleeper so I'm all for it.
Honestly watching the fairmont videos has helped me so much with regards to learning about cars and working on them, etc. I cant really express my gratitude in words for your work and really do justice toward the help I got from your work

I love how you did this car. I did not even know what a fairmont was until you started this build and I appreciate the effort you have to go through to make this series on of the most detailed builds on yt. cant wait till we see the finish test drive

Eric please post what you want to do and love to do. If you don't at that point it just becomes a job. The audience that tends to favor the repair videos will either adapt or leave but just remember that you will pull in a new audience with your awesome build. This is your first car build and once it's built it will be amazing! That in itself will bring your channel to a new level. Can't wait to see more build videos.

Eric, I appreciate what you're doing. Keep going. I'm not a Ford guy but I love this build. You aren't going to lose me as a follower no matter what path you take with your videos.

The Fairmont project is awesome. I actually passed a fairmont on a trailer that had a supercharger sticking up through the hood. Keep up the good work. Haters are gonna hate.

Eric, people either get it or they don't. I put a Dodge Omni GLH Turbo Engine and suspension from a Showroom stock racer that had been rolled and totaled into a Plymouth Horizon. Gee I loved that car. When I was finished I had worked on every nut, bolt and system of that car. It was faster than a V-8 Mustang. Build your car, your way. It will give you pleasure for many years. There is always another repair to do, to be forgotten next week. Thank you for sharing this process with us.
