This version satisfies all my conditions for a proper rendition of the Battle Hymn of the Republic:
1. No fanfare and drum ruffles and flourishes.
2. Proper tempo, no variation in tempo and not too slow (it's a march, after all).
3. All five verses
4. "Let us DIE to make men free", NOT "let us live to make men free". ("As he died... let us live" makes no sense.)

Odetta also does an excellent version.

I like this version. It's not painfully slow. You can make it realy flowery. But at the cost of attention. This is much superior.

God's light is shining upon the darkness that seeks to consume the United States right now. Let this darkness be vanquished. Hallelujah!

The song was written right after John Brown's death after his sons and him were captured after they tried to raid the armory in Virginia in which he was ultimately hanged to stop the ills of slavery! I'm proud that my University here in the state of Georgia chose The Battle Hymn of the Republic as their fight song it's not just glory glory to Ole Georgia!

This is the first video I’ve seen that got the lyrics correct. In modern versions of the song one word is changed, diluting the power of the message.

Original

“As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free.”

Modern

“As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free.”

Why is the serpent crushing lyric omitted in modern versions, it is the best bit.

America may be faltering and teetering on the edge... but no matter what, I'm still proud of what we stand for if not what we are now. Glory, Glory, Hallelujah.
