The melting of polar ice has resulted in all continents becoming submerged in water, forcing humans to adapt to their new environment.
They now live in rugged, floating communities known as atolls, feeding on seafood and living off trades. Plants, dirt, and soil cost more than gold and people use their urine for cultivation due to lack of fresh water.

They need an expanded universe of this. More stories and like an encyclopedia of the fauna and groups and individuals. This universe honestly has so much potential.

The part where you said "then traded that same money for a tomato plant... with even more dirt"

This film certainly leaves a lot of questions like how long has it been since the flood water rose drastically and how did humans really fail to adapt and end up at this point. I would be really interested in seeing the smokers history. Presumably at one point they were a cargo ship designed to carry tons of oil that through pillaging settlements managed to continue to survive. They also knew enough so that they could repair ships, planes, cars, jet skis and boats. They somehow had a lot of ammo too. The smokers seem to be the only ones who have access to vehicles.

If you have a machine that can turn your pee into drinkable water, why not a machine that can turn saltwater into freshwater??

“He was rude to them at first” is quite an understatement for him cutting off their hair, abandoning them in the open sea, and literally SELLING her to a creep

Fun Fact, the limes are to prevent scurvy. Sailors back in the day would get scurvy.

I remember being utterly fascinated by this movie as a child and fantasizing about how would it be to live in a world like this. It's really a good movie, despite whatever weirdness and inconsistency it may have

Maybe someone already commented on it but I'd like to point out one detail, at the end of the movie when the smoker's Ship is sinking, you can see the name of the ship being "Exxon Valdez", which was an actual ship that caused a major oil spill in 1989, ironically it also sank due to oil in the movie. I guess the filmmakers wanted to include that detail as it was still a recent event back then.

*"Because there's no turn on, knowing your surrogate daughter has been kidnapped"* Yep that's totally right 😂
This film is so nice, love the simple conclusion. The guy saved the day, discovered *"treasure"* and then left. What a chad xD

If they have a machine that converts urine into fresh water then why can’t they try to use that same machine for the water surrounding them 24/7??
