But what would the domain of such a function be in something like interval notation, where not only is -3 included in one set and excluded from another, but also has an area where no points are present in between?

I'm a little confused. at 2:40 you say "were not going to include -2 in the interval because at -2 it changes from increasing to decreasing" however, you do write -2 down in your notation.

What about the interval going between 1 and 2 would it be 1.5 instead

you dont have to use infinities while you dont have arrows at the endpoints.
