The Freedom Train by Jerome Moross

"The Freedom Train" is from "Gentlemen, Be Seated" by Jerome Moross with lyrics by Edward Eager. Originally presented by the New York City Opera in 1963, the musical featured a stellar cast including Dick Shawn and Alice Ghostley. Moross and Eager tell the story of the Civil War through the lens of a minstrel show, a sensitive concept amid the intensity of the Civil Rights movement of the 60's.

This performance of "The Freedom Train" by Loretta Holkmann is from an unreleased 1985 recording by Mark Mitchell.
