Live: Greece wildfires break out south of Athens

LAVRIO, GREECE - Wildfire breaks out outside in Lavrio, 60km south of Athens

Amid scorching temperatures during Greece's worst heatwave in over 30 years, more than 300 firefighters with 35 vehicles and 10 aircraft are battling the blaze at the foothills of Parnitha mountain in the suburb of Varympompi.

A severe heatwave has blasted southern Europe - with temperatures rising above 40C.

Wildfires have broken out in Greece and Italy. More than 330 people have received medical treatment as the flames were worsened by strong winds.
