Star Wars Community Gets SLAMMED Again for Being Toxic - My Thoughts

I believe Star Wars fans are the most passionate fandom on the planet. Yes, they are the hardest to please, but that's because they expect the best, and Disney is tumultuous with that delivery.
Do NOT be swayed by the loud minority of actual toxic Star Wars fans, we all know who they are when we see their comments and tweets, but they don't speak for all of us.
I think it's incorrect to make such a blanket statement saying Star Wars fans are the most toxic of any fandom. I see them as the most passionate of humans. At the end of the day, we are just that, people, with flaws like the characters we idolize, so our ways of handling such a passionate franchise comes with poor handling, which can always be fixed.

(not speaking about the horrible comments sent to actors, that is evident)

The problem social media created was that simultaneously everyone got to voice their opinion, and everyone instantly got to dog pile on every opinion made by every person in every single thing a person can possibly have an opinion of.

I’m not sure if anyone else feels this way but over the years I feel like social media has destroyed us as people. You used to be able to disagree and go home and that was the end, now people will sit all day and argue over something so small

See, I was raised on the ideal of “if you don’t like something, don’t interact with it” and I don’t understand why people don’t think this way anymore. Yeah you can say that you don’t like a character or actor, but that doesn’t justify harassing the actor in question. I’ve got actors that I simply can’t stand, but I don’t go around the internet spouting off about it.

The problem is also that everyone now thinks that they’re proffessional film makers and that they know what they’re talking about.

Hey Theory. I’m not sure you were aware, but the fan editor known as ForceGhostRecon has been selling Star Wars fan edits for real money. I thought this would concern you because one cover art he’s selling is from your Vader film poster (he’s also stolen other fan edit artworks). I want to spread to word so this guy can be stopped.

*Update:* The microtransaction problem has been resolved; they are all removed from the website. Progress is also being made on crediting the original artists and editors. Also, please do not harass this guy. We want to handle this professionally.

There's a massive difference between "hard to please" and "toxic" and you hit the nail on the head. Every fandom has a small, very vocal, group that crosses into toxicity, but most people in every fandom are just passionate just have their own opinions and disagreements. Your channel has been an excellent part of SW fandom.

The problem is that people focus on the far extreme and put the entirety of the group/fandom under the small umbrella. This is true for everything, fandoms, politics and even religions.

He didn’t say Star Trek was solely about diversity but it was definitely a major theme of many episodes of the original series during the height of the civil rights movement!

It’s one of the biggest fan bases in the world. No doubt it will have a lot of negativity and criticism from its own viewers based off numbers alone. But the positives clearly outweigh that. You’re dealing with truly committed fans with real convictions for the content. Great video!

This perception of a whole fanbase as being like it's loud 1% is exactly why i have come to dislike social media. Most fans aren't spamming actors calling them racial slurs but there in lies the problem with social media. It artificially inflates the voice of tiny tiny fractions of a group while making the majority seem absolutely nonexistent because they are quiet.

The “Hard to Please” Star Wars fans probably has to do with how the Universe has a pre-conceived story of the Skywalkers where as Star Trek has simply been a cast to seek out new life and new stories.

SW fans have created their own interpretations from young Anakin to the Solo children.
When other writers and creators use Legacy character in their story and mix in new characters, fans get grumpy because it’s not how they would do it.

Maybe this is why Filoni has done such a good job mixing Legacy and new.
And why stories like Rebels and the Mandalorian work. Those shows aren’t about Legacy characters so you can have fun with it as long as it fits within the universe Lucas created.

Boba Fett and Obiwan being Legacy characters will get scrutinized for how a writer writes for them and introduces new characters to be the antagonist.

Saw someone say there is a difference between “hard to please” and “toxic” and I totally agree. I am by no means a huge Star Wars fan, but I have gotten more into it recently. I have seen so many negative things related to the content that has been put out. For example, I saw many people saying they hated Obi-wan Kenobi. They were saying “it’s not star wars”. I feel like the fans have this impossible to reach expectation and if it doesn’t reach that, they hate it. Instead of just appreciating what it is, they want to hate on it. It’s just sad to see coming into this fandom.

No matter what it is, they will always pull out the "You're toxic" card for practically anything at this point, it's so tiring. There's alot of valid reasons to criticize what Disney has done to Star Wars. They literally turned a once golden franchise to now a bronze franchise.

I mean when you have full grown men bullying child actors like Jake Lloyd then there’s a problem. However every fan base of something can be rough at times you just can’t generalize cuz not everybody acts like that

He's right. There was always a subdivision of fans that are just complaining about nonsense just for the sake of complaining. They're doing it with Disney saying "they ruined it and George shouldn't have sold Lucasfilm", but those are the same people who complained about the prequels when they came out...

I never got the hate towards Hayden Christensen in the prequels, at the end of the day he hate a part to fill, in particular in the revenge of the sith, he had to show how he was changing from anakin to vader, how that inner darkness was growing, the script had a few bad points but for what it's worth I thought he played it well, he had to convey his emotional changes, for me watching anakin's journey into the dark was really cool, we got to see how he became who he was

"Some internet fans of Star Wars are toxic!"* There I fixed it.

It's amazing how stupid these news sources are and how manipulative they can be with word play.

Theory, you have a massive following, you’ve gotten lots of hateful messages and even some death threats countless times over the years, because unfortunately those kinds people exist. I’ve always appreciated that you don’t brand all of your subscribers as being apart of that small but sometimes loud minority. Just the same not all Star Wars fans are “Toxic”

I've followed Star Wars since the late 70s there is toxicity element within the fan base. It went undetected until the advent of the internet. Everybody got an opinion nowadays, a complaint, a soap box. That's just the age we're living in. It would be cool if the true fans came to the defense of those actors/actresses being attacked a little bit more vs. watching from the sidelines.

It seems that this keeps happening over and over again and all its doing is pushing actual fans out of the genre all together. Fans who arent apart of the bullying hate mobs and just want to have a fun universe to escape too are losing the passion because of the bad product and louder voicing overpowering them. I'm not abandoning the franchise but stuff like this does keep me from investing more time in the franchise like the old days.

You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villian
