Any expected improvement towards HS OL recruiting? Seems like Napier and his staff are still behind in that category and are following the Hevessey game plan.

Judging by the lack of insider predictive texts my confidence isn’t as high.

It’s pretty clear that recruiting is fairly meaningless when it comes to the Florida Gators according to the recruiting rankings. Florida was 15th, one below Michigan, last season on 247 team talent rankings last year. They finished with their third straight losing season while Michigan didn’t lose a single game. According to recruiting rankings, Florida has done fairly well. There are those who claim that Mullen didn’t recruit well, but there’s really no difference between his class rankings and Napier.
I bring this up because I think getting excited over getting a DJ Lagway or LJ McCray is a waste of time, . Napier had the 4th overall pick in the draft in Anthony Richardson, but did he develop him? Why would that failure change with Lagway?
I wonder if Florida coaches are good at evaluating prospects? You don’t just want someone because of the number of stars they have. More important is how they fit your team’s culture, style of play, reason they want to play for your school, etc. Florida has failed miserably in recruiting, no matter what the rankings say. Is it that they’re getting the wrong players? Is their development once they get to Florida poor because of bad coaching? I don’t know the answers, but I do know that what is put on the field does not match what is the supposed talent level at Florida.
As for your questioning recruiting rankings for individual players, that’s something that should be ignored. The coaches, at least the better ones, could care less about how many stars a player has. There are guys, even five stars, that aren’t wanted because of character issues or they might not fit the scheme you employ. Also, the individual rankings are subjective. Five months ago Vernell Brown III was ranked the 249th and the 309th best player by 247 and On3 respectively. Now he’s a five star. Why? Has a single game been played? FSU had Daylan McCutcheon higher on their WR board than Brown.
The point I’m making is that recruiting rankings must be taken with a grain of salt. They’re just guesses, and how good they are is only determined when they play in college. Some coaches are better at evaluation and development. It’s clear that Florida’s present staff are lacking in both areas.
