Traditional Outrigger Canoe Sailing in Yap and Palau

Ich segele mit traditionellen Ausleger-Kanus in Yap und Palau. Die Kanus sind komplett in Handarbeit hergestellt und ohne jede Verwendung von Metall, Verbindungsmittel sind Schnüre und Seile aus Cocosfasern. In Palau ist sogar das Segel aus Pandanusblättern geflochten. Mit größeren Kanus (zu Beginn auf dem Land zu sehen) können erfahrene Navigatoren allein mit der Beobachtung der Sterne, der Wellen, der Fische und der Vögel mehrere hundert Kilometer entfernte Inseln zielsicher ansteuern.

That's the problem with proa. It can't be improved. I watch a lot of people who try to make it better with modern this and that, and the results are either disappointing or merely not worth it.
While you watch a vid of those traditional canoes and every little thing feels just right.

This is beautiful. I am thinking of building a proa out of waterproof plywood with all the details like your proa. Only with us are the waves high and the sides of the proe must be high. We on the Adriatic and the Mediterranean suffer from quite high waves and strong winds, which would quickly fill your boat with sea, and for a small boy, apart from a lot of gymnastics, that would be a problem. Nice proa, nice video, nice music. I would like to sail to one of your atolls and live peacefully without these advanced and sick civilizational entanglements.
