After Disclosure w/ Dolan & Zabel

In the debut episode of Bryce's YouTube channel "Point of Contact," Bryce and UFO researcher Richard Dolan act like the old friends they are, reflecting on the ideas behind A.D. After Disclosure but, surprisingly, also a very personal accounting of the process they followed to get the book written on time and at the level of quality they wanted.

They take a hard (and comic) look at the challenges of merging their voices to envision a post-disclosure world, emphasizing the book’s groundbreaking nature in exploring how society might react if UFO secrecy is lifted. Yet, at the end, it came down to a 10-day work retreat at Bryce's house where the two got a huge amount of the writing out in first draft form.

Dolan shares insights from his significant body of work, including UFOs and the National Security State and UFOs for the 21st Century Mind, detailing his research journey and the importance of clear communication in the field. The conversation also covers media influence, public skepticism, and how whistleblowers and factions within the government impact the pace of disclosure.

Hi Bryce and Richard, I applied for a science journalism fellowship a few days ago. I love writing and want to build a career in journalism reporting on science issues around the world. I'm also a big fan of your shows and the research that you guys have done on UFOs / UAPs. I really enjoyed listening to this episode on writing and editing. I was chatting to someone last week who claimed to have seen a UFO. She was sitting in a car at night time with a friend when all of a sudden she looked up and saw what she described as a fireball moving as if it was intelligently controlled not too high above them. In that moment, she claimed that she tried to take a photograph of the fireball on her camera phone (a HTC model), but it stopped working. I asked her if the electronics in the car stopped working as well, synchronous with the phone issue, but she said no --- only her phone stopped working. After she went home and went to bed, she claimed that she felt like something else was in her bedroom watching her; she repeated to me over and over that she felt as though something was watching her. This event happened to her 12 years ago and she's still unable to explain it. Her friend in the car saw the fireball as well. I respectfully asked If they were intoxicated, using drugs, or somehow impaired, and she said no --- the fireball just appeared above them and was moving as if by control. So weird.

I found this discussion absolutely fascinating. The collaboration between the two of you "hooked me, " but it's the philosophy you share that reeled me in. I understand your feeling of being guided towards a specific goal, even when you aren't sure where that guidance is taking you (or if you even want to go there). That's happened to me numerous times. You can either fight it or accept it gratefully as necessary guidance along the path ahead. I recommend accepting it. You both said quite a few things that resonated with me and my own experiences. And for some reason, your discussion somehow pointed me towards the right ending to a book I'm writing. (That weird guidance thing again.)
