What I love about this story so much is how much peoples opinions on it differ. Nobody knows if what he did was right or wrong because we weren't living his life and yet everyone develops such strong emotions and opinion towards it. Whether you love it or hate it the story has made you feel strong emotions and that's whats most amazing about it.

The wilderness is only beautiful when you have a warm place to sleep and know where you next meal is coming from. The wilderness is an incredibly savage place when you are trying to eke out an existence. The comfortable romanticize about the wilderness while the destitute fear it.

Regardless of how you feel about this, you have to admit it has a powerful message. I first learned of the movie after telling my therapist I dont need one single person in my life. She told me to watch this movie. I too grew up sort of like Chris and I watched my parents have knock down drag outs, it really does a number on a small child's mind to witness that. It changes you and affects you deeply. This story moved me for so many reasons. We all want happiness in our lives, some more than others, and I've come to believe it truly isnt real unless it's shared. We weren't put on this earth to live alone, we are here to love one another.

Really appreciate this. I saw this film when it came out over a decade ago and it had a real impact on me. Its through this film that I was introduced to Thoreau, Emmerson and Jack London. However, I tried to rewatch it a few weeks ago and found it far too pretentious and unrealistic to enjoy in the way I did ten years ago. I was pretty unhappy with myself for feeling this way about a beautiful film which was once so important to me. It goes to show how insidious the process of drowning out individualism and rebellion within society really is. I never noticed my views changing. This video captures the essence of the film in a way that bypasses the condescending response I have unfortunately developed towards people like Christopher.

every time years coming back to this film, I found myself have another feeling for it. First time, I like the freedom he followed, but in the same time critized him for abandon his parents, second time I felt I understand why he did that, still feel sorry for him. Third time, I felt I could go same path, then I after travelling myself, I found not regret for his death, It could be his spiritual path he went, so he went and came. I know next time coming back to him, I may have another thought. And then I felt the life so beautiful, so vast that way.

Shannon Hoon and Eddie Vedder are my favorite American rock singers. My father and I saw Pearl Jam live on November 24, 2013 at the LA Sports Areana. Thank you.

People criticize Chris for what he did, saying it was selfish, childish and arrogant, and use as an argument his death, saying that it was all for nothing cause he died and didnt adjust to social norms and expectations. What about all the people who made it? There's so many stories out there, just like Chris's, the only difference is that they did make it, had their happy ending.

Don't let yourself be discouraged by a bunch of society's puppets, live your dream and start walking its path when you get the chance.

When I first heard about Chris's journey, his life and fate, as a good, civilized human, I thought him crazy. How sad to throw it all away! But now, now, I envy the man. Just as I envied Sam, from "My Side of the Mountain." No matter who we are, the sides of mountains, the fruited plains, the tight-knit forests, and the seclusion of islands still call to us. Afterall, what were our ancestors before us but wandering tribesmen?

After going on a 10day expedition into the Alaskan wild for a sheep. I can surely say Chris mccandless was a madman. The book talks about how Everyman wants to know his true strength, we as men want to be guarded for our toughness, a tale as old of time. We obsess over being the best at something, finding out niche in the world. Chris escaped the world and all its expectations, he lived selfishly amongst the destitute and became a wild man, with the finale of his trip in Alaska though he discovered, living as a wild man won’t last you a lifetime. Happiness is better shared. And unfortunately he couldn’t make it out to tell the story.

Recently watched the movie and it's beautiful. It's my dream to one day live off grid, so I totally get where what his train of thought was. It's a tragic ending as he was not well prepared, but he still got to do what he wanted.
