FT8, JS8Call, and FLDigi on the new Raspberry Pi 5!

The Raspberry Pi5 is now shipping. Should you get one and why? Let's take a look at the more popular Ham radio apps and see how they perform on the latest device from the Raspberry Pi foundation. APRS/packet, FT8, JS8Call, FLDigi are all running effortlessly on the Pi5 with Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm.

DigiPi is NOT yet available on the Pi5 nor Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm... workin' on it. Maybe I'll post some sketchy release candidates.

Original PiZero will not run all these apps (well), you want the Pi Zero 2W at a minimum or 3B/3A/Pi4.

Great stuff....I only recently found your videos. Got my license a few years ago and trying to get back into it. Have to ask, can you tell me more about that desktop arcade in the background? I've always wanted one of those larger ones, but that size looks perfect to have. I want one too!!!

@KM6LYW if the Pi 5 can run it and you can add Vara in all its colours to the DigiPi image then I think we will need no other setup for the majority of digital modes.

Very cool. Is this specific to the Icom 705 or would it work with other radios? I currently have a xiegu g90 I've been trying to get set up for digital modes

How does the audio get from the rig to the pi? Over the usb?

I installed FLDIGI on my new Raspberry Pi 5. Sadly, it slows down the mouse cursor to a level that makes it unusable. Anyone else who had better luck? Any suggestions?
