Glass Beams - One Raga to a Disco Beat (A cover of 'Raga Bhairav' by Charanjit Singh)

This is a cover of ‘Raga Bhairav’ by Charanjit Singh, taken from the 1982 Album ‘Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat’.

Created in Mumbai in 1982, the original song is one of the earliest records to use the Roland TB 303 bass line synthesizer – the sound of acid house. Futuristic without intention, the album pre-dates the first acid house records of Chicago.

The team handling the creative direction for their sets, everything from styling, graphics, cinematography and set design, deserves multiple rounds of applause. The visual presentation just adds so much more to the sound.

The original was found in a drawer in Charanjit's house in Mumbai after he passed away. Charanjit was a jobbing musician in the Bollywood film industry and the front man for a wedding band. He effectively invented Acid House Music- his work predated the Chicago movement. For me, he is a legend. Charanjit ki tarif!

1982 Indian proto-EDM hits hard. This is a great track which led me to the original.

Raga Bhairav' by Charanjit Singh is brilliant but someone should do a recreation of all the ragas done by Charanjit Singh!
It will be an epic gift to this Generation.

I love both Khruangbin and Ozric Tentacles, and this band really seems to bring in elements of both.

The original Raga Bhairav by Charanjit Singh is a piece of music history. I would go as far as to say he unknowingly invented the acid house sound and was a precursor to techno. All that in 1982, with an unreleased 303, away from any Western influence. Massive.

You always think music is in the past then someone comes out with something that totally inspires you.

Wow, the style, the SOUND, the look. Do not stop fellas and keep any drama far away from what you have created. If you do, folks will be listening to y’all 50 years from now like the Stones.

Soulful music!

My wife and I love Glass Beams, we own your songs, and are oldies and live in rural Queensland.
We can’t wait for new music, and hope that the sound grows and morphs.
Much love and best wishes Glass Beams❤❤😊
