Steep Grade Vs New Locomotive! Working Summit Hill, 29 Cars Long Hood Forward! Classic Trains! N&W

New locomotive tackles the steep grade running long hood forward on the old N&W mainline! First trip pulling a mixed freight train. Very unusual locomotive consist including a switcher engine ( MP15DC ) and a classic B36-7. This is the short line railroad Cincinnati Eastern Railroad CCET. CCET leases 69+ route miles from Norfolk Southern of the old N&W Peavine Line. #1657 is a new locomotive to CCET. It is a GP15-1. 310 EMD GP15-1 were built between June 1976 and March 1982 and has 1500HP. Notice that when I say new I mean new to CCET. This video follows the last video that shows the unit running lite to tie onto a heavy train. This time we see the locomotive leading the train eastbound and running long hood forward just like the N&W days that I remember when I was in high school. First we see the locomotive running down Summit Hill in Batavia by itself. Then we see the full train running in the opposite direction crossing Broadwell Rd just east of Newtown, Ohio. Next we get to see and hear the train attack the long hill up to Summit Rd in Batavia Township. The final scene is of the locomotive exiting Mount Carmel Group/Huhtamaki complex after spotting 2 covered hoppers for Mt Carmel Group. That was the first trip on that industrial spur for the locomotive. I still have a few more scenes of the 1657 on its first run that I will post later along with other videos. I really got lucky to catch this awesome locomotive on its first powered run and this video will go down in history as the video that your grandpa talked about! Thanks for watching! Filmed July 28, 2021.
Thanks for watching!

Good news, Jawtooth!! Our coal mine is back up and running. We, my younger Newfie and I, caught a loaded train going out last evening. I missed it in town again, but maybe next time. It was crossing at the top of a steep grade out of town with 3 NS units at the front and 2 NS units pushing the rear.

Yep, they were working on that hill! The new locomotive looks great, but I gotta tell you, I think that little switcher is the coolest!

It looked like a beautiful day to be out and about. The typical heat of the midwestern summer has been blissfully absent this week.

Hello from the UK. Those engines certainly got a good workout climbing that gradient. It is good to see that those rather less well painted locomotives, no 2414 and 5857 are still in service. i had wondered whether the new locomotives were going to be their replacement. I will stay watching this channel to find out. Keep filming, I am still watching, even if the UK lockdown is lifting.

I told two friends about your channel jaw tooth they're from New England like me and they love your videos. All three of us go around and videotape trains all day and then they send their videos and or still pictures in to Railroad magazines across the United States. I only sending videos now and still pictures maybe twice a year

Congrats on the first revenue run catch, that and the steep hill were very cool ! I would be hoping the brakes work going down that thing. Rare for a camera to catch the grade - nice job filming !

Thank You Jaw Tooth for another great video. I am glad the Cincinnati Eastern is doing well enough to get a new locomotive. I do like the switch engine too.
I remember taking the NW #611 steam train on this line to Portsmouth back in the 1980's on a rail fan trip sponsored by the Cincinnati Railroad Historical Society- really a beautiful rail line.
Sad the other day- drove by the Buckeye Yard in Columbus- the hump yard is empty and weed grown. I noticed the removed all but 2 or 3 of the lead tracks into the yard from the south approach- visible over Interstate 70.
