Explanation: When Kishimoto came up with the akatsuki, the original idea was that they all were gonna be some sort of monster, that's the reason why orochinaru, kisame, sasori, and kakuzu have lots of inhuman attributes in their designs. I assume that when he decided to go a different route, Kishimoto realized that the designs looked too cool to change them, so he never did.

Its heavily implied throughout the show that Orochimaru wasnt the only one doing horiffic human experiments back in the day, that was always my theory.

The Hoshigaki shinobi clan is from Kirigakure. All of its known members appear to have shark-like features such as sharp, pointed teeth and facial features that resemble gills. So not actual gills just gill like.

As for orochimaru thats pale skin and make up and in a world with Sharingan and other eye techniques whats hard to believe about snake eyes that may increase perception

my theory is that it’s bc kishimoto originally wanted the series about ninja animals, have naruto be the 9 tailed fox instead of having it sealed inside him. i belive some of his original concept were repurposed like a shark ninja or a snake ninja.
