Conor Neill describes 5 vital aspects of a powerful speaking voice, a voice that transmits credibility and authority to the audience.

I have been teaching Persuasive Communications on MBA courses at IESE Business School for 10 years. This is part of a collection of short lessons compiled from my courses and shared for use both as a support to my classes, and a way of sharing this valuable knowledge to a wider audience via these awesome digital tools ;-)

Perhaps the most useful video on the topic on the internet. I was struggling to adopt a north american accent (if there is such a thing) after migrating from Asia, but was not convinced that it would work. After watching this video now I can be myself, without the need of trying to speak in a fake accent and still sound powerful and authentic. Thanks Conor

That is amazing.  When you did the part on silence, it was very affecting.  The silence really did strike a powerful tone.  Absolutely amazing.

Love the short and to the point videos! Great modeling for me not to say so many words, but to use my words well!

Thank you for your tips! I always had anxiety about taking a speech. Now, after seeing your videos and practicing and really believing about what I am talking about, almost took my anxiety.

I enjoy the right silence, it gives time for the listener absorbing the idea and feeling like the speaker cares if the audience are following or not.

Thanks. You can change the world. The ability to speak is a powerful gift. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of Lights (ultimately). The best gift ever given to mankind is the Living Word Which became flesh and died for us so that we might have everlasting life. When we wait on His love, our fears our cast away and we gain control over ourselves. Thus our voice will have a wonderful influence on those who hear us. Blessings

Very nice tricks Conor. Thank you for sharing that.

Two remarks though. From a videography point of view, I find surprising you didn't look directly at the camera lens. I think that looking straigh at the viewer is a strong way to make our speech even more assertive -- and in our occidental culture it helps in building trust. But maybe there was some reason I missed here for that choice ?

More "seriously" do you have some extra tips for people like me that are non-native English speakers and that talk with a very noticeable accent ? I know the best would be practicing and training to remove that accent. But maybe there are some tricks to help overcome that extra difficulty and maintain connection between the speaker and its audience ?
