Very interesting. Good mental images of how these tiny islands of functional proteins are floating in an absolutely vast universe of protein space.

I love how cleanly you explained the issue, spectacular. But Could you please make this in a video format for a much clearer understanding. The mechanics of proteins is actually an area I want to fully understand, making a 3d video of this would really be helpful.

It could be a good thing to have references written under the video. Even though Dr Axe's paper is very rigorous, including in the extrapolation leading to 10 to the negative 77 (obviously not a statistical count!); but inevitably one would like to know what other researchers have found on the question. youtube's voice recognition points us to " Yaky or sour", and I had some difficulty identifying this researcher as Yoichi Osawa ...

The Martin Nowak reference seems to be to "The Time Scale of Evolutionary Innovation".
