Happy 50th anniversary to this song! It was released this time in 1974(it’s April 2024 as I post my comment.) It made the top ten songs of 1974, as well as Bennie and the jets(Elton John), Sweet home Alabama(Lynyrd Skynyrd), Grand Funks cover version of Loco motion(released 12 years prior, originally sung by Little Eva in 1962), and Rock on(David Essex). May this song live on for another 50 years!!!

good music knows no age, it is timeless. I am 43 but i grew up being around all kinds of music, from big band and swing, artists like frank Sinatra, Nat king Cole, Elvis, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, o'jays, kool and the gang, four tops, Led Zeppelin, etc etc. and since i was 4 and 5 years old i was jamming out to that, as well as many others from Motown, rock n roll, blues, soul, rnb, reggae, funk, and more, i never cared much for country or that techno stuff, but i have had my own radios and tape players since i was 3 years old, and i was just naturally drawn to and craved music. good music is good music.

I first heard this song when I was about 9 or 10. Loved it then, love it now. I was surprised when I found out a few years ago, that the members of the band were Native American. I thought they were black! Such a classic, amazing song! As a Black American with some Native American ancestry, I can say those guys had SOUL!
