Space Engine is approaching the release of the 0.97.4 update, I played around with the 0.97.4 Release candidate and looked at a few of the small changes to this very big universe.

Awesome seeing you on Space Engine :)

I really hope the development can continue as long as possible because this thing has huuuge potential.

13:05 Hey Scott maybe you can ask the developer to add some sort of spline camera path recording with essentially an offline rendering mode? The camera path allows you to set up your shot in realtime and the offline rendering would simply have the renderer wait until the terrain generation is sufficiently detailed? There is some huge potential here for visualizations and documentaries. This would be a very viable alternative to stock footage for many smaller scale projects. With a smart licensing model the developer could make some extra money while giving the creative folks a whole lot more freedom.

Small tip, if you press G twice when an object is selected you will go there faster than pressing G once.

It was amazing following the development and seeing the bugs that space engineer would go through in such a short amount of time. Also another thing that is fun to play with is the magnitude settings.

There are more Planes in the ocean then submarines in the air

Oh man at 10:50 ... He even thought about the gravitational blueshift! It's interesting that Scott didn't pick up on it (or mention it) since it was so obvious. It's one of the lesser known effects that gravity has on light: As light "falls" into a gravity well, it picks up energy just like any other object will. But instead of going faster, that energy is expressed as a shorter wavelength!

interesting blue shift simulation of the light when you were near the blackhole

11:19 He never explicitly mentioned the blue-shifting, but that was the prettiest part!

11:18 It even blue-shifted the light! That's fucking awesome!

I really love your space engine videos.

Scott, one thing you can do is when you click on a star in the top left corner it'll list the number of planets and also show if any of the planets have life. It'll show up as "9 planets (1 with terrestial life, terra).

Also will you do another exploration video? I love them, and I'd love to see you explore andromeda.

What would be a cool feature is that if you speed up time really fast you can see the land move of objects! I can't wait to look at earth and see how the land changes. With path finding!! :D

Tip: If you press G several times you zoom in faster. When spamming it you can go across galaxies in seconds

was wondering when you would get to the update, my night has been made.

Here I was hoping to see Sagittarius A* just as you bring up Vesta. The moments later that the next jump you make! Almost spooky. Well with enough viewers I guess it was bound to happen :)

You can use "realistic" luminosity settings, it's something like "C" key or next to it. You will have automatic eye adaptation to objects luminosity. Some people find it less beautiful because you don't always see milky way, nebula etc... and near planets most stars are outshined by the brightness of the terrain but it really looks realistic. With this no way to see all moons with the same brithness at 12:30. Really like this feature.

10:55 as u get closer to the black hole looking at the red stars, they turn blue, i dont understand the physics, but i appreciate that detail

Outro jam is great. Got a sweet 80's sound.

Space Engine is great for making really interesting and unique star systems for tabletop game campaigns.
