Only considering your Sun sign, and not the whole chart, is like not knowing about function stacks in MBTI. I guess only scraping the surface of these systems can only lead to superficial opinions about them.
Anyways these two systems have nothing in common, really

I think the people who say “Astrology is like MBTI: useless” is probably misinformed in both fields

When I was younger I used to be into Astrology, dream intereptation and so much more to figure out who I am, What I'm suppose to do with my life and how to live. Then I decided to just live.

When it comes to astrology vs mbti, my argument has become this:

If you know about the cognitive functions, you can somewhat accurately guess what another persons type is. The types are based on preferences, and preferences show in behaviour.
it's impossible to look at someone's behaviour and be able to figure out their astrology sign, because the month you're born in has nothing to do with your behaviour.

Basically, when someone asks me what my sign or MBTI-type is, I ask them to guess.
Someone who is into MBTI might come close to my type if they know the functions, and have observed my behaviour.
Someone who believes in astrology will say "No come on, just tell me" 9 out of 10 times.

Because in astrology you build _from_ the sign in description of people; there's a confirmation bias.
And in MBTI you bulid _to_ the type because - like you said FJ - it starts from within the person.

I’d always been skeptical about astrology, but when a good friend of mine talked me into seeing her long time friend, an experienced astrologer, it was quite mind blowing.

I asked about several colleagues (with whom she had never met), all Tauruses but different birthdays, and she pointed out each one’s traits accurately.

I don’t know how astrology actually works, but I imagine it is a system that has accumulated years of observations on the patterns of the universe and human behaviors since the ancient times.

That said, I don’t think it is something comparable to MBTI, because their purpose and system are completely different from each other.
They’re not on the same page, not even in the same book!

Carl Jung was actually heavily inspired by astrology which lead to the creation of MBTI.
