'On Jupiter it Rains Diamonds.' Unusual Interesting Space Facts

Today Manolo and I have been talking about planets, stars, and space and why humans are so fascinated with them. Manolo says it has to do with Mankind's thirst for knowledge, and I am trying to get him to understand that it is just because humans are always trying to prove they are not as stupid as we all know they are!

1. Hot Ice.
Pressure can have a crazy effect on things, here on Planet Earth, water at the bottom of the ocean is under such pressure that it can be heated by hot magma to 400 degrees celsius without boiling. About 33 light-years away from us is an exoplanet called Gliese 436b, due to immense pressure, the ice on the planet remains solid even though the planet's surface temperature is around 300 degrees celsius.

2. Raining Diamonds.
New atmospheric data has revealed that it probably rains diamonds on both Saturn and Jupiter. In the upper atmosphere lightning turns methane into soot, as the soot begins to fall, pressure on it increases and after about 1000 miles it turns to graphite, after around 4000 miles the pressure is so great it turns into diamond, and then, as it continues to fall, 18,000 miles, the temperature and pressure become so great that it would probably turn to liquid. Scientists suspect that at this level there is a sea of liquid carbon.

3. The Sun is Massive.
How many times do think Earth would fit inside the Sun? 1.3 Million! The sun is massive! and the energy released by its core is equivalent to 100 billion nuclear bombs!

4. Uranus is Weird
Planet Earth is tilted 23 degrees on its axis, Mars has a similar tilt and this gives the planets their seasons. When one part is tilted closer to the sun it's summer and when it's tilted away, it's winter. However, Uranus is the only planet in our solar system to be tilted sideways! 98 degrees! This has a tremendous effect on its seasons, each one, lasts 21 years! Imagine that!
I mean, I've heard that winter can drag on, but that is insane!

5. Mars Is Rusty.
Mars gets its red color from iron oxide, more commonly known as rust! this rust gets kicked up by violent dust storms caused by the sun and can fill the atmosphere for months, but how did this iron oxidize without water? well, scientists don't really know.
There is water in the form of ice at the poles but this is permanently frozen, there is also evidence that there may be some water in the form of ice underneath the surface but thanks to Mars's thin atmosphere and its temperatures that range from 20 degrees centigrade to -100 degrees, it would rarely, if ever! be in liquid form.

Hope you enjoyed this video!
Until next time!

The idea of colonizing Mars *is* stupid.
