Umbreon VMAX 215/203 is truly the one card that does not follow the rules regarding Pokemon Collectibles. It seems Moonbreon is again on the rise, with it rising over $100 in the last 15 days.

What's causing Umbreon price increase, and what does this mean for the other Sword And Shield Alternate Arts?

This is truly incredible and it really makes you wonder, whats the end game for Moonbreon?

Never regret buying a mint umbreon for £170 at the start, grading it, got a 10, sold it for £1000 bought another copy for £400 later on again mint. I realised i loved it in my binder. Ill keep this card forever

Its such a unique art and with the pull rate and no reprint, this card is now set to print money for those that have it.

Just as base set Charizard is the number 1 card in vintage Pokémon, just as this Moonbreon will become/becoming just THAT for the 2020s onward. Pokémon in 2010 to 2020, wasn't as hyped as it was before or after those years. Your pandemic point is perfect, because this card is the resurgence of Pokémon, and the price steadily climbing is due to the fact collectors need to feel a sense of security (card wise) that there is that "holy" card we all aspire to have. That grail card is what keeps the hobby going for that specific time period, and collectors of today need a card to lean on just as vintage collectors grew up relying and leaning on the base set Charizard. It is the backbone. Beautiful term for it.

I think the moonbreon set the standard for alt arts. It’s not just the artwork, it’s also the eveelution line, the chase, and a cultural shift as you stated in the video. Either way, it’s a symbol for the community and it’s an iconic card, hence the price

It has arguably the best and most original artwork of the era. I've been opening a few Evolving Skies every couple days when I can find the few packs that are still being sold in specific tins here in the US. No luck so far obviously but here's to hoping I see the moonbreon some day.

Seems to me that there's a few of things at play here:

1 - Umbreon isn't usually a chase card (like how you typically get Charizards etc.) And the art plus time of release makes it significant.

2 - It's a card with demand just for the pure love of Umbreon.

3 - The pop showing over 13k PSA 10s could also mean that demand is increasing with people looking to get the card graded and move to sell it to make a quick buck.

The thing about all three of these though, is I think it will be more of a short term increase before steadily falling off (3-6 months or 1 year tops).

There's going to be some very good sets being released and if we're getting another team rocket set or a trainer set, I think the new hype and new chase cards there will takeover in the same way 151 did just because of the pure nostalgia associated to it.
