Lake chad - How Africa plans to save the shrinking mega lake chad from climate change. Since the recurring droughts began in the early 1970s, the size of the lake chad has dwindled by over 90%, particularly in the last 60 years. Back in 1963, the lake's surface size was 26,000 square kilometers, yet, it presently stands at less than 1,500 square kilometers. This can be attributed to chronic drought and desertification, which have triggered diminished inflows into the lake chad basin. Other factors attributed to the dramatic shrinking is the result of poor human management, improperly designed and used dams and irresponsible irrigation. Our video today, will take a look into the lake chad basin crisis, and how the Lake Chad replenishment project or how the $50 billion transaqua project lake chad, intend to revive the shrinking lake.

The company I work at (a small Canadian company) is currently expanding to multiple countries in Africa, The people we talk with are very hopeful for their countries and the continent, they talk of Africa with such passion!

I strongly believe in the prestigious future of Africa! The road will not be easy, but the destination will be worth it!

I really hope they figure something out fast! It’s obviously an extremely important body of water! It’s so frustrating how corrupt public officials can absolutely derail such extraordinary important project for so many people.. ❤️ from 🇺🇸🙏🏻🌊🌧💦

I have a big sympathy for my African friends! I hope we - Africa and Europe - will build great and wealthy future. I am sceptical towards China and its totalitarian regime.

They should continually plant million trees a year around the lake, how their ancestors use to do to prevent drought

DR Congo must agree on the proposal to divert the river Congo into lake Chad. This will save the livelihood of millions of people. They shouldn't block it, if it has been proven to be feasible and no impact to their country.

The diversion from Congo river to lake Chad is desirable as 8 Countries citizens would benefit from irrigation and hydroelectric dams.Congo should considerate of other brothers.

Climate change? Lmao. The lake has shrunk from 7000 years ago. It was bigger than the Great Lakes. It was way bigger thousands of years ago.

Ok i cant be the only person to think this i get that and maybe the gains outweigh the risks, but the congo river is 1 bio-system and the lake is another, so there's going to be consequences no human can foresee.

It is LONG overdue that Africa begins to reach her potential. This will be her biggest challenge ever—that of bringing her people together for their own benefit and prosperity: and breaking free of the tentacles & vortexes of "The West" attempting to control & extract resources.
