In this 4K video I review the Waterman Edson fountain pen. The Edson was Waterman's flagship fountain pen from the early '90s to the mid '10s. It features a beautiful inlaid 18kt gold nib nib.

I've had my Edson since the early 90's. The cap is battered, the gold has rubbed off, the body has split and cracked, but.. it still writes and draws like new, even maybe better. It is the finest pen I have ever used and I'm glad it looks so shabby, because no one will steal it. My favourite tool.

Blake -- Nice review. Thank you. There are remarkably few reviews of the Edson, so I appreciate finding yours. I own 4 or 5 of these pens, including the blue, green, gray, and sterling silver models. I agree with your assessments and conclusions regarding the pen, especially on the matter of the cap and its proneness to abrasion. I wish Waterman had continued producing the Edson line, perhaps with some updates and improvements in its design. C'est la vie.

I like this pen. Yes, the prices for vintage pens are as expensive as a new pen. At the beginning I was buying every pen I liked, now I have many I don't use because there are very few reviews of pens after daily using them. For ex, the materials change color, brake, etc after many cleanings in both cheap and non cheap pens. Reviewing new pens after only a week of use, doesn't show its real value. I find myself wasting my money in pens and now I need to find out how to sell, gift, store them up, etc.
Thank you for the review, please be safe🌟

This was for long one of my top grail pens. Wish fulfilled last year. I landed the gorgeous emerald w/gold one for $560. I adore my Edson to death. I wouldn’t mind getting another one, either the beautiful red or the splendid blue you own. Vintage Waterman is up there among my favorite pens. The Edson is every bit the flagship Waterman model it is universally considered to be.
Kudos for showcasing this timeless old classic for everybody to see.

the waterman carene also basically writes right away when you install a cartridge, from my experience. I just threw a cartridge in a pen where the old converter had been in so long that the ink had either evaporated or dried out, and it instantly was writing for me. They're just both well made pens.

Blake, I have this pen. Blue with M nib. I love the lines and the styling details you mentioned which makes it unique and instantly recognizable. Build quality is there as well. 3 pluses of this pen are styling, nib and the blue barrel.

Aloha Blake. I own this pen, (bought it new in 1994), and still love it. The design is unique and timeless IMHO. I don't daily carry it anymore as I prefer more expressive nibs now. After seeing your review, I may have to break it out again and rekindle my love for this pen, lol!

Good review. This Edson is a great and good looking pen and I own a few of the fountain pen and ball point pen. As it is quite heavy, I do not think that one would like to post the cap during writing. Another issue with Edson is the filling system - it would be a wonderful pen if it is piston-filled.

Thanks for an interesting review of this pen. I used to own one about 20 years ago, but gave it away as I found it too heavy. I'm actually surprised it commands such a price these days. I gave it away as I found I used my 146 a lot more, as it was a lighter pen with a softer nib. You may be interested that the 147 is another pen where you can stick a cartridge in and it writes instantly with decent flow and wetness.

I though that Pilot Elite 95S is the most elegant beautiful pen there is until I saw this pen .
Really this Waterman Edson is a looker what a beatiful elegant pen.
By the way is it with solid gold parts or gold plated ones other than of course the nib.

I was looking for the Edson for many years, and now I found one 🎇✨🌟🎆🎈. 800 EUR (870 USD), sapphire blue, M nib, unused, never inked, with complete box and documents. It is gorgeous. Such a beauty. And it writes like heaven. I am happy to have it now. One of the most beautiful fountain pens ever made. I do agree that it is not a "real" inlaid nib like the Schaeffer Legacy nib. But it is beautifully designed, and let's not be too picky 😁. And the clip design is outstanding. Absolutely one of the top pens in my collection.

This is a grail pen for me, and I am thrilled that I finally own one. Yes, it would be even nicer with a piston filler, but so what? I would describe its styling as "French elegance", because it reminds me of the postwar Citroen DS and SM sedans.

This or used Montblanc? Or Pilot Custom 823 which would you choose? Also are you planning on doing a review on the ink+volt notebook journal? Thanks

Beautiful pen and suits you well. Good if one likes heavier pens. Thanks for the video. 😊

I want to buy some ink, a decent purple and a nib pen. What do you advise?

Thanks for the useful review. How do you disassemble the feed and the nib for the purpose of cleaning it?

I am seriously considering the purchase of this pen so thanks for this excellent and timely review. My favourite pen is the Sheaffer PFM because the section is perfect in size, shape, slope and has no threads. In your opinion, how similar is the Sheaffer you showed to this pen as far as the section is concerned?

What is the Sheaffer pen that you showed in the video? Thanks for the review!

Definitely an inlaid nib, no doubt about that. How far back it does doesn't denote whether or not something is inlaid.

It's very different from your normal nib.
