Massive sinkhole prompts highway closure in California

Caltrans has closed both directions of State Route-92 near Half Moon Bay, Calif. due to a massive sinkhole that appeared on one side of the roadway. While it has been closed off from upper SR-35 to Pilarcitos Creek Road, there is no estimated time of when it will be reopened.

That is not a sinkhole. That is a place where fill dirt was installed to fill a gap from one side of a small drainage valley to the other. The fill material was not properly placed and compacted. The water on the uphill side was not properly diverted. Add a bunch if rain and you have a construction defect failure. Expect more along the public/private toll roads.

There was a dip in the parking lot at my school I graduated from now I work there it has been there for at least ten years I even tripped on it before and they just found out it was a sink hole and water is in it the hole is now huge takes up most of the parking lot
