Glitches, crashes, muted mics, De Santis' Twitter campaign launch had it all. It was a rocky start to what is likely to be an uphill battle for the Florida Governor. Even though De Santis is Trump's strongest challenger, he’s trailing the former President in the polls by 30 percent. Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, has officially launched his presidential campaign for the 2024 US election. DeSantis now has to persuade the Republican party that he is a better candidate than his main rival, former US President, Donald Trump. Does DeSantis and his culture war agenda have national appeal? And can he beat Trump at his own game?

Describing DeSantis as a heavyweight in the Republican Party is not a true characterization. He is the governor of FL true enough but compared to Trump he’s no more notable than any other candidate for the GOP nomination. He’s just further ahead. I’d consider him a heavyweight if he was able to criticize Trump head on. He like all the other primary candidates refuses to go head on at Trump which spells not a contender.

He is a very weak communicator and doesn’t come off as either a fighter or a politician who transcends the political system like Trump does. All these things are what primary right wing voters respond to.

FL is not the U.S. if I were Biden I wouldn’t be threatened at all by him. I’d just play it straight and drive out Democratic (and Democratic leaning) voters period ignore the GOP set narratives because most of your voters will. Concentrate on actually delivering something.

The demos have been in Democrats favor for a while however it is not the same status quo that will get them out to the polls. Republican voters are motivated primarily by racism, misogyny and homophobia. They are highly motivated to vote. Democratic voters need that as well. Not the other guy is not enough even with the demographic advantage Democrats have nationally.
