The pilots take all the glory but let me tell you, without the maintenance crew, ain't NOTHING ever goes up in the air. PERIOD.

A Russian equivalent to AWAC just got damaged in Belarus by 2 drones. This leaves only 2 operational for the Russian airforce out of 9 that were originally built during the Soviet era.

AWACS aside, when I was in the USAF, there were airplanes that would come to the base I was on that had some of the craziest antenna configurations you could ever imagine. I once asked a Pilot, "Hey Sir, what is that airplane used for?" observations". was all he said.

This aircraft, I have seen its guts! It is not just an aircraft no, not even close! It is truly an expert system, by every definition! 0:38

Oh, no! At about 11:57, the moderator states that the aircraft can continue monitoring throughout the refueling process. The powerful radar is *not* powered anywhere near other aircraft, especially a tanker!

0:41 - - *Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS)*
12:33 - - *Aircraft carriers rely on the Northrop Grumman E2 HAWKEYE as their Airborne Early Warning system (AEW).*
12:51 - - *Like the E3 - the HAWKEYE also boasts a large radar dome that allows it to provide valuable info about ships, aircraft + weather within the vicinity of an operation. It can even detect anti-ship missile attacks (with enough time to allow for emergency counter measures to be deployed.)*

The E3 should have been reengined decades ago, with the same engines that the KC135 was reengined decades ago.

My favourite Lead Engineer at Boeing had had some responsibility for seeing that the ‘slip rings’ worked properly. The mechanism that transfers signals and power to and from the rotating part and the non rotating part is the slip rings. In his earlier life he was raised on a ranch in Montana, so I got to learn how a real cowboy talks.
