Felling Trees - Woodland Management

A new season, and felling trees to open up a area of woodland ready for replanting with new species, and creating light for wild flowers and regenerating shrubs and trees.

This is not a "How to" video, but a video documenting my progress in learning how to manage a small woodland. This way I can see where I go wrong!

Thanks for watching.

You're felling like a pro now Steve, good job to let in more light for the woodland plants just stay on top of the brambles come Spring. It's nice that you're leaving habitat piles and not burning the brush like a lot of people do.

Nice to see your still around. Woodland looking better, plenty of light able to reach the floor. Should be good for the spring.

Great to get an update on your woods stewardship; it's a great example for others. Your chainsaw prowess is definitely growing, too. As a day's work, that beats most "workout" programs. Maybe time to rename the channel to Industrious Veggie! Really looking forward to seeing your woods green up in the wake of your thinning.

It is interesting to see how you are managing your wood Steve. It must be so nice having your own private wood . Thank you for sharing it wit us in these videos :D Teddy

I suspect the wood has a long way to go steve - I mean your plans for it. But what we're seeing thus far is real progress. Good going mate. Mark

I love the idea of the Hazel coppice, maybe look into small scale traditional charcoal burning in the future? Looking forward to seeing if more bluebells appear now they have that extra light, you want to keep on top of the brambles in the clearing though or they'll soon take over.

Nice video. Is the woodland yours, if it is you have a fantastic playground. Thanks for the video.

You are lucky, the land is flat and you haven’t got total ash die back killing all your trees. Mine is devastated by the disease and they are falling before I get to them. Brambles taking over and stopping me clearing them.
