The Criterion pack with this is so good.

I'd kill to see Browning's original cut. Unless someone discovers a print in storage somewhere, it's completely lost.

Drew Barrymore is really one of us ... one of us ... a real cinephile lol

The great thing about "Freaks", is that the movie shows how the group of outcasts form a caring community.
Meanwhile, it shows plainly that the "normal" people are the actual monsters.

Never seen this. But finally seeing the connection between this and that season of American Horror Story. Makes sense.

The title is misleading. Or, you mistakenly assume the freaks are the ones with the physical deformities. The real freaks are the 'normies' who exploit and mistreat the others. a film of astounding heart and bravery, especially for it's time.

I loved Freaks, even though it WASN'T the film everyone felt cool for watching, which it never was here. My Granddads didn’t work with Tod Browning either. They were an orderly in a Mental Hospital and an Electrician.
Freaks is awesome. Last night, I watched Freaks, M and The French Connection. I wish Hollywood was still able to make movies and the stations could still make talkshows.

I like the choice of film clips and their presentation.Freaks would seem a sweet melodrama.
Thanks DB & JWBS

I never saw Freaks as a horror film. Except for the final scene nothing horror related happens in it. It to me felt like a soap opera set in the sideshow.

Maple syrup thick with what plebes call "irony, " but's more accurately termed ... eh, insert a brilliant but long essay about Drew Barrymore and pop culture.

It's still controversial and debated whether the film is exploitative, voyeuristic and unfair to the subjects of the films OR if it's actually a humanistic film that's true and honest with a filter of a circus/grand guignol film.
I with the latter, I find this film profound and deeply humanistic (even though Tod Browning (one of my heroes) was a cynical/cold filmmaker, he hit a nerve of the human condition with this film.

You know how often I found myself asking "What's Drew Barrymore's opinion on this film"? Never...

I found it disturbing, when I saw it as a young person. I always wanted to be doing circus 🎪 style entertainment, and this was both far from it, and really part of it 😂❤😂… lol 😂 I guess my sister won’t need to be strapped up on her rotating wheel! I’ve grown up.

A true masterpiece. The director was effectively blacklisted after making it.

That chat show ain't it. But I still have a crush on her, circa Donnie Darko period.

I used to love her, but hate her stupid chat show, she is not a presenter.

I wonder who wrote this opinion for her.
