To the listener. My in laws are a nightmare. 22 years worth. “I” opted out of their lives years ago. Your mental health is worth more than their feelings or ego’s.👍✌️❤️

I wish I heard this 36 years ago.
I married a mommas boy I thought he would grow out of it.
I was so emotionally and mentally abused by his mom and brother and sister. I would beg him and he told to get over it.
After 33 years I was mentally and physically emotionally done.
Thinking of suicide and even tried. When it didn’t work. I got and started packing to leave.
Best decision I ever made.

My mom 💔 education is what helped me heal. Family or not, toxic ppl do not deserve your space.✌🏻

If she treats you like dirt, your child sees it she is also next in line to receive it.

I hear so many negative comments about MILs. I had the most extraordinarily wonderful MIL. She was a great Christian woman in a very difficult marriage and had a terrible mother. But she never gave up or in. She never had a negative thing to say about anyone despite it all. She was a true warrior and a shining example of a Christian woman to the end. Hope you don’t mind my eulogizing her.

Thank you for this perspective. I have felt guilty for placing a hard boundary that excluded my mother from contact with my adopted son. I did it for his safety and psychological well being. I also did it for mine. Even though I warned her numerous times that that would be the result of her behavior i've never viewed it as her making that choice to step out of my life.

This is my story as well. The abuse and the control took a huge toll on myself and our kids. My in laws have just gotten worse over the years, especially my MIL. She has gotten physically aggressive with our daughter and emotionally abusive with both of our kids to the point where they cry (they are teens) and beg not to go over there anymore, and want next to nothing to do with them. I agree with John. These are adults and they are making choices, and we cannot be responsible for other people's choices.

Don’t respect people who don’t respect you honestly stop destroying yourself. Teach your kids to be strong and stand up for yourself

And this is why since I’ve been married I disowned my mother and sister 😅they couldn’t be happy for me once I married and I told them in advance if they don’t get their act together I was going to drop them out my life now 4 yrs and I barely got an apology from my mother through text 😂

I'm of mixed feelings about this. I have incredibly wonderful SILs but it wasn't always so smooth. When my daughter's were navigating relationships and I seen red flag behaviors, I spoke up. I'm not going to sit back silently and listen to someone belittle and berate one of my daughter's. In one situation he said it's either me or your mom. She said I'm picking my mom.
I'm not saying in all circumstances or situations that in laws aren't toxic but I'm not going to say that toxic SIL's and DIL's don't exist either.
As parents we have to step back and let our children figure it out, especially when it comes to raising their own children. With that said, if I seen my SIL being abusive, I won't sit quietly.
