I build another Matchbox classic, from a 1983 kit Monty's Caravan make an appearance. The vehicle was used a a mobile command vehicle for British Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery and features in the kit along with a Dingo scout car and a neat diorama.

It’s as if Matchbox, deliberately, set out to make stuff Airfix couldn’t or wouldn’t do.The mid 70’s to 80’s were a fun time for modellers.

The modern model companies could learn from these value for money old kits . Figures and diorama provided as well as a model was a great idea now so sadly ignored . Apart from Tamiya who still provide excellent figures to complement the model most just give the bare essentials and no more . Even with most up to date aircraft kits you get no pilot figure something that was always included in the past . These things add a lot to a model .

Great build, makes me want to go to my clubs stash and get this kit and build it. Thanks for sharing.

I love these old Matchbox kits, I have the Desert Patrol diorama sitting completed in my collection. Lots of detail, everything just fits nicely, great kits.

Beautifully done. A true master of detail. Well done Neil.
I love how it goes from the plastic base, looking like it weighs like a few feathers to a hefty looking die-cast feel. Amazing work.

Marvellous work Neil. Those little tips and the description of all your hard won techniques and 'secrets' should be gold for beginners and experienced modellers alike. As you know, I've built literally hundreds of models, but I have never encountered that technique where you specifically go back and add some spot touches of the base colour OVER the dry brushing. When you see it explained and performed, it is pure gold. I'll be using that one from now on.

One of my favourite all time builds. Massively cool kit.

This, the 17pdr/tractor/Jeep and the Char B1/FT-17 combo were most excellent and rare little kits. The diorama bases in the other two kits were a lot more scenic, though.
Thanks for bringing back some memories.

Tamiya extra thin works perfectly when applied thinly on decals (doesn't matter how old they are). It not only creates the strongest bond, but also melts away the films and gives the decals a matt painted look. Don't be greedy though, or it can melt away the decals. 👍

Matchbox models were brilliant. I remember scrimping and scraping for a 1/32 BF109 my local toy shop (remember them!) Had, only for it to be reduced to a fraction of its cost dueto missing manual! Bonus. It was the biggest scale I had ever built and although not a fan of the BF109 particularly, I loved it.
