Legendary Motherboards: Gigabyte X58A-OC - Overview & Thoughts

Показать описание
The Gigabyte GA-X58A-OC was released late to the X58 game back in early 2011 for one purpose only, to get the best possible performance out from your Gulftown 980X or 990X and being probably the most notable motherboard ever in the history of overclocking the way it was built.

On the video I go through the main features of the board and how it stood back in those days, and how it compares to the competition of that platform even today. The board is a very stripped down barebones X58 motherboard as it has extremely minimal connectivity on the board and at the rear IO. It barely comes with any kind of internal audio on the board and just single LAN port.

The board features a very strong power delivery design for the CPU, Northbridge and memory and with the OC-Touch buttons it has some real advantage in overclocking the CPU on LN2.

I remember the z77 UP7, it had a 32phase VRM. 2000watts for a 77watt i7 3770K. I still have my 3770K with the Asrock z77 OC Formula. I also have a z77 extreme4 that's still kickin.

If you excuse my stupid car analogy, this board seems like a true 'race-car'. Stripped from any comfort features, purely focused on the performance and handling aspect. Most top OC-mainboards I have seen in the past are more like a Bugatti. Extreme performance with comfort and luxury.

I sold my old R3X board a while ago and now I miss X58. Only board I have left for that platform has a weird bug and no longer accepts any changes in baseclock. Bios sets them, so POST screen tells me I run 10GHz e.g. but in reality its stuck to default.

Anyway, I'm tempted to pick up another X58 OC board and get back at it. Focused a year on 775, I feel like this might be some fresh air.

i like the idea to add more sophisticated hardware instead of using the crappy onboard onechip hardware...so it's not a bad thing to have fewer onboard devices but additional PCIe slots + PCI...brilliant

Dam man! I have literally got one of these like two days ago! Currently sat here right now playing with a 980X, first one I've ever owned! Doing 4760Mhz on Custom water 1.51ish volts in R11.5, how does that compare to the 980X you've recently played with?

Hey Luumi, I just got a new B-die kit today and wanted to oc my ram but on x99 but I have a strange issue, maybe you can help me. I put it in and was able to boot 3333 14 14 14 cr1 260 65535 without anny issues, could easily pass the aida ram bench and play witcher and what not. Pushing my luck I wanted to try 13 13 13 because why not but it crashed and started to bootloop after clearing cmos it wouldn't even boot the previously stable setting with 14 timings, I even saved the profile because it worked so good. Why won't it train the old setting anymore? I even upped system agent and vccio to like 1.2-1.25 and ram from 1.4 to up to 1.55 but It wouldn't boot with any combination of voltages.. Did my memory controller degrade this quick? It can't be.. should I train a easier to train setting before and work my way up? Oh yeah and I am on a 5820k and x99s sli plus and everything under custom water loop..

That's a sweet looking motherboard. i want one of those! But I'll bet it costs a fortune on eBay and i can't justify putting that kind of money into x58

What do these sell for on the used market? Can't find any recent sales on eBay and the only one currently listed is apparently totally shot ... parts only.
