Thanks heaps 👍
After watching this, I felt thoroughly prepared for a struggle with that bottom bolt. After a minute of no luck, I removed the belt, pulled the alternator forward (toward front of car) as far as it would go, and then the bolt just came straight out!
Hope this may help someone else save some time ✅

Im so happy, the garage was doing for 620$, i found the piece for 170$ and did it myself with your help and saved about 450$ in 1h30. On the 2005 it was soooo easy - and now im proud of myself

Thank you for such an informative and easy to follow video. I’m glad you mentioned about the bottom bolt and that sensor! I would have given up otherwise. Hour and a half to get the old one out. Most of it with that bottom bolt. Thirty minutes to get the new one in 🤦🏼‍♀️

I ended up just removing the airbag sensor bracket, I didn’t feel comfortable with the amount of pressure I was putting on everything to just slide it past. Thanks for the video! I could tell there was a weird trick when I got stuck on that lower bolt😂

It’s i had to cut the flange of the airbag sensor holder with a electric saws but I did it so tanks o lot.

Do you think the alternator fits too loosely on the mounting bracket? It makes the adjusting bracket have to hold the alternator straight causing it to bend slightly as you tighten the belt? I’ve had 2 adjusting brackets break over time because of this.

"This bolt is a real pain in the butt to get past this airbag sensor"
Tell me about it. I just replaced the belt so I didn't have to remove the bolt entirely but it's still a nightmare. That bolt is on fairly tight (I think spec is 40 ft. lb. then add several years old age stickyness) so getting something on it long enough to give you the leverage to break it free cost me a solid hour of time, a trip to the parts shop, and multiple bruises on my forearms. I looked at removing the airbag sensor but the bolts on THAT are also very hard to access. Drives me crazy. This is an operation you will have to do at least two or three times over the life of the vehicle so it would have been nice for Toyota to think about that in the design.

After watching your video and thinking my lower bolt would clear that bracket I call bull. No way to get the bolt out on my 2000 model. Ended up dremmeling the bracket away for the bolt to clear. May have worked on your 2001 but no way on mine. Real pain and hours to take off.

What is that plug next to the alternator bracket. I replaced mine and it broke. Probably should have watched this video fist 😂. Would appreciate the help.
