Standing aground on Guernsey - Ep. 7 RAN Sailing

Guernsey is one of the Channel Islands and is situated 43 Nm from Cherbourg, France. We leave Cherbourg after 24 hours and arrive in St. Peter Port on Guernsey in the afternoon. The first marina is too shallow and RAN is standing aground every six hours. After three days we move to another marina and can relax. During our stay we get some bad weather, get invited to the yacht club and take a tour around the island. We take a look at RAN on the outside and give you a quick tour.

The crossing of the Bay of Biscay is getting closer and that will be the longest passage so far and the first time on deep ocean.

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved in to our sailboat RAN, a one-off aluminium built Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started sailing south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds takes us.

Read more about us and the boat and get updates and photos!

Thanks for allowing me to vicariously travel with you. I keep Google maps open all the time as I refreshen my high school geography. If I inherit a large sum I would buy a boat without hesitation. :-)

Love your laid-back, calm approach to everything, which is reflected in your film-making style -- thanks for sharing. Oh, I can't see Johan and Yoga going too well together either ;-)

Hi, WOW i have just stumbbled upon your videos, I am a long time subsciber of La Vagabonde ( well i am an Aussie) and SVDelos to name a couple. I love your videos, Your productions are spot on, love the drone film work, love the music, at times I felt i was watching a music video. After watching so many tropical climate passages i loved to see the reality of cold weather sailing, and the beauty it has. Keep up the great work, ,Im hooked, , Love it.
Stay safe,

Just found your channel yesterday. I keep up with several couples that cruise. I also keep up with Doug Jackson and the construction of his 72 foot origami steel hulled junk. He is building it in his front yard in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He posted a video every week. Stay safe, I hear that the Bay of Biscay can get really rough at times

Really enjoying your channel. Good seamanship and great photography - you guys look very natural together. Thanks for sharing your adventures. Guernsey is a special place - I first visited it before it had a marina. Now for the Bay of Biscay, right!

So happy to have stumbled upon your channel. My lady and I just bought our first sailboat here in Brooklyn and our dream is to become good enough to one day travel like you. You guys are awesome, very inspirational and beautifully filmed. If you ever sail through NY harbor give us a shout!

Johan & Malin,

Thanks for sharing your background and the boat details were particularily interesting. I have seen many of those wind vane devices for steering but coult never figure out how they work. Also, nice that you got the oil heater problem fixed. I found that quite scary!

Would be nice to continue the tour to cover more of the technical details.

Fair Winds and Best Regards,

Bob A.

PS Looking forward to seeing your on deck yoga sessions Johan! lol

Amazing scenery in this episode. I'm a new subscriber to your channel and have got some way to go with catching up but it is cold and rainy and ideal conditions to do this.
Regards from South Africa!

Guernsey is beautiful, been there twice with a boat. Although not in early march with spring slowly coming. :)
Enjoy your stay and fair winds.

Nice update guys, great camera work and editing as usual. I think that alloy vessel in the marina was a Dashew design which are excellent expedition boats. Fair winds...
