🌸🎀 Restoring a Skirt from the English GLBs 🎀🌸

preview_player
Показать описание
Giving a minor glow up to a skirt originally made by manga artist M. Alice Legrow for volume 5 of the English-language Gothic and Lolita Bible. The GLBs were a huge part of the reason I got into jfashion so I was crazy excited to get my hands on this skirt. It was clearly never made to actually be worn though, and in it's original condition it wasn't suitable for regular wear. Since I want this to be a normal piece of my wardrobe it needs to be taken apart partially and reassembled - so today we'll have another episode of garment rehab.

This skirt feels like it was made on Project Runway by someone who had 6 breakdowns that episode and was just trying to get something on a model

I like that they were like all "no one will ever know we never finished this skirt" and then, lo and behold, 10 years later, it got it's own Youtube video of shame showing everything they just didn't finish haha. You did wonderful work restoring this, btw--looks great!

this is such a beautiful restoration project!! i am amazed you were able to get a piece that has so much history to it, and it's wonderful how you were able to skillfully restore and finish it. i really appreciate how serious you are about not mindlessly consuming fast fashion and also restoring and maintaining your wardrobe. i feel like this project is really showing that love for sustainable fashion and truly taking care of clothes!!

Good lord what a project, but man you did this skirt good. She finally gets the treatment she always deserved and can now live freely, enjoying life. 😌 What a wholesome video.

This was like what those shows that 'remake' an heirloom wedding dress should strive to be.

omg this video is giving me flashbacks to the lolita skirts I made in highschool 😭 maybe I should try to make over some of those too 👀

This is like watching architectural restoration of a relic. So cool to see something so ~historical~ getting fixed up and a new lease on life. I remember when those old grandma print gobelin style fabrics were THE look. *sigh*

What an amazing transformation! It's like you raised the skirt from the dead but, instead of a zombie, it turned into a beautiful phoenix. There must be tons of garments like this that were just quickly put together for a photo shoot and discarded afterwards. I wish there were enough Stitchesses around to restore every single one of them. <3

That turned out absolutely beautifully! I want to commend you for refreshing a piece of otherwise unwearable history and giving it a new life! Not everyone would have the guts to touch it and would instead just keep it in a box somewhere or something... I know I would be too afraid! But it deserves to be worn and loved! ✨

I don't know why I'm just seeing this now, but I'm so glad I did! It's like that episode of Futurama..."When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all." It looks exactly the same but so different! Really excellent job, and now you can wear it! I can't wait to see many looks with it when the world isn't on fire. I'm so glad you bought this, thank you for sharing your hard work!

It warms my heart to see a piece of EGL history being lovingly restored like this. I'd love to see the coords you create with it too!

I watched the backlog of Stitchess videos and now I look up your content because of how good your videos are. I made a cool shirt for my mom because of your videos.
I tie dyed a shirt that I had turned into a crop top when the lower seam started to give out. I put beads on embroidery thread and strung them all along the hem loosely enough that they click clack if you dance while wearing it. Also, everything I've been doing has been done without a machine. I am such hippie goblin trash <3

And you saved some beautiful fabric.
The idea of how to use the fabric they had was good, you made it fuctional and done propperly.
Also love the trim you used, the old one wasn't bad, your one is just prettier.
You also did such pretty and even looking pleats! That in itself is an art form.

So back in the day, I actually wrote in to the English Gothic Lolita Bible and won an Atelier Boz headpiece. My email was supposed to appear in an issue, so I ran to the bookstore when it released and was disappointed mine didn't get into the issue you showed, theeen Tokyopop discontinued it after it. In hindsight, I am so grateful it never saw the light of day, because I Sure Was 14 When I Wrote That
