In the era of Google Maps, who makes a living out of creating globes - by hand? Peter Bellerby, of Bellerby & Co. Globemakers, for one. Martha: "And how do you get the wrinkles out?"
Bellerby: "You don't make them in the first place."
Girl in the back: **smiles**

These globes are beautiful! They are works of art in and of themselves, let alone the geographic detail. The Churchill - my word!! Fantastic stuff!

If I had the money, I'd have a Churchill in my Mansions foyer.

My 40 some years in manufacturing tells me instead of cutting the paper freehand one would use a template to guide the knife or construct a cutting jig as they do in carton manufacturing. Its still being made by hand.

Umm ... A current model globe ... Pretty important . I just lucked out and bought a globe for $35 at an antique shop, which I'll compare to a new model world globe ( current ) for home schooling lessons ... The globe I just bought showes Vietnam as one country and sat next to a globe which showed north and south Vietnam, sat next to one which Vietnam was not listed but showed ownership of the territory by the French . the former U.S.S.R. Is boldly printed ( pre collapse of the Soviet union ) the Panama canal is listed as a U.S. territory, sat next to a globe where Panama canal isen't marked . Hawaii is marked as a state, showed Honolulu as state capitol . Alaska is a state shows Jeneu as state capitol ... The antique dealer kept looking over like ... What's taking that guy so long ? I was looking for U.K. vs. Japan Occupied Hong Kong .
I'm thinking of making our homeschooling final exam the construction of a globe . Geographically, politically, mathmaticly (longitude, latitude) accurate .
With a chart corresponding in more than one language ... That ought to get more than one college recruiter interested .
