Types of Stress:
1. Tensile Stress :It is stress produced in a membar because of pull-type of loading.
2. Compressive Stress: It is the stress produced in a member because of push-type of loading.
3. Shear-Stress: It is the stress produced in a member when the load is tangential to the cross-sectional area.
4. Torsional Shear stress: It is a Stress which exists in rotating members like shafts.
5. Bending Stress: It is a stress which causes elongation of a member.

Sir I think tensile and compressive stress always act perpendicular to the Cross sectional area and shear stress always acts parallel to the Cross sectional area

Good work. at 11.11, for equilibrium, the load on the pin on the right - hand side should be 2P for equilibrium.Keep it p.

if we applied tensile load than stress will be compressive because it will resist tensile force...isn't it

I suggest all stresses should be denoted 'sigma'.why torsional stress and shear stress in 'tou' ?
