I am really enjoying learning with your Daria. Being over 50 years of age I find my capacity to remember is extremely poor but your videos make learning interesting and the explanations and demonstrations on articulation of letters is excellent. THANK YOU.

I'm Russian but during all my life (I'm 19 now) I couldn't pronounce hard russian 'L' properly, I would just say 'v' instead of 'l'. I tired many exercises to fix this defect, but they just wouldn't help me. But I knew English quite well so about half a year ago I desided to use the english L sound like in word 'look' and slowly incorporate it into my russia speech. It sounded a bit weird at first but I managed to adapt the sound a little bit so now sounds quite nice!!
I don't know how to say the Russian rolling R sound (I say it like French people) as well, logopedic exercises don't help me, I guess I'm gonna try to learn this sound from another language again =)

Thank you! This was extremely helpful. I've been trying to understand how to not use the American English "L" sound when pronouncing "Л" in words.

I was wondering why this letter sounds so different in Russian than in English, and it seems like with the English L we put our tongue more on the top of the mouth, whereas now I know with Russian you put your tongue between your teeth, so that's what results in what sounds to me almost like a swallowing sound in certain combination of Л followed by a vowel

I have a question. I looked at myself in the mirror while pronouncing the Italian, English, and Russian L. I’m Italian and I noticed our L sound is made differently, the tongue is not between the teeth, in fact it’s basically up and touches the roof of the mouth. When I speak English (I don’t have a strong accent) I noticed my tongue goes forward, almost in between the teeth. So I’m wondering..are the English and Russian L sounds made with the same movement of the tongue? And if so, why do they sound so different when pronounced?

Hi Daria, I’m rattling around with pronunciation of “sh” and “sh-ch” and I’ve come up with the following English sentence that may ? demonstrate the subtle difference between the 2. Here we go;

“How do I sheer a sheep?”

I’m thinking that the tongue position in (the English word) sheer is like “sh-ch” letter and the tongue position for the (English word) sheep is similar to the Russian letter “sh”. There’s a subtle change in palatisatiin with the tongue being fractionally further forward for “sh-ch”.

What do you think? Please can you tell me if this is a good representation. Thank you

I have trouble with л and ю. It's so unnatural to me

I still can't hear the difference between regular L and the Russian L.
