On the opening day of her exhibition "Neena, aan uthii" in London, Acaye Kerunen sat down with us to share how climate-consciousness shapes her practice. In this film, she explores the radical possibilities of working in harmony with the seasons and the land. The natural materials in her installations—raffia, palm leaves, reeds, dry banana fibers, stripped banana leaves, sisal, and sorghum stems—root her work in Uganda’s heritage, natural environment, and the women’s communities whose livelihoods rely on these ecosystems.

Acaye Kerunen’s exhibition, her first solo presentation in the UK, is now on view at our Hanover Square gallery through February 22.

What a wonderful way to discover an artist's work, thank you!

When you are making, creating, the minds ugly chatter doesn't matter so much.
I adore all weaving, I suggest people try it, to find how utterly complex it is,
until you can succumb to the rhythm, because it is repetitious but you can't lose your place.
These are wonderful works, truly inviting the eye, you can never be bored,
actually I think some, you could almost wear.
