Here are the top 5 things about milky way, that you didn't know!

1) The Milky Way galaxy, was born about 12.7 billion years ago,
and has been growing ever since.

2) According to scientists, about 7 new stars are born in the galaxy, every single year.

3) The distance of the solar system from the galactic center,
is about 27,000 light-years.

4) The Milky Way, travels through space at a speed of about 343 miles per second,
with regard to the Cosmic Microwave Background radiation.

5) The galaxy’s central core has a supermassive black hole,
which contains the mass of roughly 4.3 million Suns.

Hello guys! Thanks for finding out the mistake.
Yeah the Milky way is actually 13.61 billion years old not 12.7 billion. Thank you all for pointing out!

Finally someone said what the speed is relative to.

I’m such an astral physics nerd that I knew all of those five facts. No I don’t have an Astro physics degree of any kind but I’ve been fascinated by astrophysics and physics in general my entire life.

I love learning about space! Nice video!

7 new star are born every year in the milky way galaxy. But if we includes the whole universe, 4000 stars were born every second

This stuff really puts into perspective just how insignificant we are. Everyone’s problems in life in the grand scheme of things don’t matter that much.

Think about this when you are having a argument about leaving the toilet seat up

Plus it has a soft chocolate center and tastes better than a Mars bar.

The sixth top thing you did not know is that our Milky Way galaxy has a secret relationship going on with Andromeda Galaxy and they've been doing it for years

Finally, someone who actually gives me interesting facts.

5 facts I already knew but I've been learning all about space and physics and astrophysics and the laws that govern everything over the last 4 years. once I got off drugs and started working again I had to do something with my free time so I enjoy feeding my brain with anything and everything but space being my favorite

Isn’t the Milky Way a chocolate bar my whole life is a lie

and why wouldnt we already know these things, lol
ok here are my 5 items..

1. thè galaxy is actually a lot bigger and expansive than we actually thought it was
2. the galaxy is not just within the Virgo cluster it actually belongs to a much larger structure called Laniakea that is half a billion ly in diameter
3. the sun is actually closer to the central core of the galaxy than usually depicted, seems we underestimated medium distance objects the nearby ones we used parallax to estimate and the very distant measurements we use red shift to estimate, both methods are seemingly accurate, however its the medium distances we used assumed brightness of known stars (the standard candle) to estimate and it seems we got that slightly wrong and thus things at such medium distances were over estimated, and so the distance to the centre of our galaxy is less than previously assumed.
4. our star has only made 18 orbits of the galaxy since it's birth.
5. the spiral arms are simply waves that pass around the galaxy similarly to the way waves travel over the oceans, the actual water slowly ebbs as the tides, but waves are rising and falling crests, the galaxy has such similar waves that pass around the structure far faster than the stars are. we are about to experience the next wave pass through this region, as it does the magnetic poles will shift and finally swap n to s and the stars will flare up increasly as this dust laden electrostatic wave passes by, it's effects will be felt for the next 1000 years or so (it's why we are seeing most of the recent environmental changes and the same is happening throughout the entire solar system, last time this occurred was the younger dryas epoch).
enjoy
