I bought the beautiful Tonka Car Carrier Truck on eBay for € 30. The Tonka Car Carrier Truck is very large. It is 1.20 m long in total. So that the truck looks like new again, let's start with the restoration.
First of all, the Tonka Car Carrier Truck was completely dismantled. Then all metal parts were freed from rust. Since the parts were so big, it took a while until everything was sandblasting. Actually, the freshly blasted parts should be coated with the powder gun. Unfortunately the Tonka Car Carrier Truck is so big that the parts don't fit in my oven. That's why I had to paint all parts with the spray can. First the parts were primed and then painted with the appropriate color.

Since the engine grill was busy I made a new one. I took the engine grill from the Tonka Mighty Dump Truck as a template. With a vacuum machine it is possible to produce a new part by molding. The Vaquform company made one of their devices available to me. If you are interested, take a look at the website of the company Vaquform. They have really very good products.

The bikes were actually in good condition. It was just washed. Small stones that were in the cracks of the wheels were removed with a flat screwdriver. Since the old axles were pretty rusty, I made new ones. To make the headlights white, I put them in hydrogen peroxide. After 12 hours, the headlights looked like new.
Grant all components were assembled. Of course, the original stickers should not be missing on the Tonka truck. That's why I got some stickers on Ebay. It was a very nice restorations project. If you liked it, give a thumbs up. Don't forget to leave a comment.

I had this toy as a kid, the only thing that can make it better is if you have the cars that came with it to complete the set, would love to see the restoration of the cars to go with it, great job thanks for sharing!!!

I reviewed again. What was the point of the vacuum formed grill? What I saw... Original grill seemed okay but dirty. The formed replacement looked perfect, but the plastic is obviously thin. So painting it was necessary. The final product looked like the original grill but clean... The question I have, because it's not obviously clear to me - after separating the shell from the original, and paint it, did you put the two back together? That is, skin the original, because it was dirty/roughed up? Could flame have smoothed the original grill, to hide the scratches, etc? What exactly happened with this?

This carrier dates back to 1968. I remember seeing this in stores when I was a kid, and was impressed by the size of it. It came with three Jeep Wagoneers. This is superb restauration job!!

Wow, it is large. I had a green dune buggy, a back hoe, a camper van (i'm not sure if it was a Tonka or not but the cardboard packaging said something like the rubber Wheels were warrantied for 5 miles...) You have an amazing opportunity to add discrete battery powered LED back lights!!

The paint work came out looking quite good especially for not being able to powder coat. They sure had a lot of rivets on this project. Nicely done sir very nicely done indeed.
