Did you know bamboo can help combat climate change? Fast growing and flexible, bamboo plants and products can store more carbon than certain types of tree. Bamboo is also used around the world as a source of renewable energy, and to make thousands of durable products - providing a lifeline for communities vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. With over 30 million hectares of bamboo across Africa, Asia and Latin America, the plant can provide a significant contribution to combatting climate change in the developing world.

This video was produced by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation and the InterPress Service.

The International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation, or INBAR, is an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting the use of bamboo and rattan for inclusive, green development. We research and strengthen the global knowledge base for bamboo and rattan and raise awareness of their use for:

♣Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
♣Land Restoration
♣Poverty Alleviation
♣South-South Cooperation
♣Sustainable, Affordable Construction
♣Accessible, Green Energy.

Bamboo and hemp are probably the best chances we have at reversing climate change at this point. Bamboo and hemp are great resources that are overly abundant, grows quickly, and can be used for many things. Add in that bamboo is one of the few forms of vegetation that can grow anywhere (depending on the type of bamboo), and it needs to be implemented in every country.
