My husband works bloody hard for me to be able to be a housewife and I’m so proud of my role in our marriage and our family home. I went to register the birth of my baby and I told the registrar I’m a housewife when asked my occupation she said I have to write homemaker I said no sorry I’m not a builder I’m a housewife she couldn’t put that down so I’m recorded as a homemaker? As if I’m a housewife because I have no choice its ludicrous

Totally agree with the point about women being excluded by language. My mother experienced her fourth miscarriage in the late 60's, she was in her late 30's. While she was in hospital, she was in a ward with women who had aborted their babies, and doctors referred to her miscarriage as a natural abortion, which is technically correct she was traumatised. Her history was she waited nine years for both me and then my sister, with miscarriages between. She carried this trauma till the day she died.
