Reason 11 Standalone DAW 😔 **It's not good**

Reason 11 has officially been released and this is my first look at the standalone DAW. I hadn't tested all the features when I was messing with the beta (as I spent most of my time with the VST)... Let's just say this didn't go well. 😅

Also, some scary news regarding the future of Reason as a standalone DAW based on clues we can pick up from the new Reason Studios website. 😱

Just my two cents, but Reason has always been a great DAW, except... they ought to spend less time making mediocre new rack modules and revamp the scale of the workspace so that we don't need a magnifying glass to use it.

Ive been pretty disappointed by Propellerheads direction lately. It seems they dont really understand their strengths and instead have been trying to go ultra poppy and trendy instead of including some essential features people have asked for over 10 years now, like Recycle being included in the standard DAW.

Thanks for the vid bro! The problem that reason has always had to me is audio editing, sampling, and the sequencer. I believe that's a big reason(no pun) why they're having a hard time competing with other Daws. I think they can get some street cred back by aiming at rap producers. I remember from like 2006-2011 it seemed like everyone used reason, these days it's very rare that I bump into people that use it.

At 7.21, doesn't your random clicking produce a fade out? It is hard to conceive that you can't do something so bread-and-butter as automating fades.

Reason is great as a Standalone DAW and as a vst plug in.

Reason 11 Standalone DAW 😔 **It's better than ever** Fixed that for you. Thank me later

I agree with you - I never tried it but I am assuming that it is very hard to hear any difference between a curve and a straight line. And if so, does the bezier curve actually sound better?

Since version 1 the sequencer felt like 'my first sequencer'. I used it until version 5, then started to explore other daws. I always loved the rack, so no problem for me if they focus 100% on that.

Reason is blurry on my mac retina. I read about the issue and resolve, but not satisfied. How is it for you?

hey Dave how are you? long time no talk. I finally purchased reason 11 suite upgrade a few minutes ago. but I do have a question for you. once purchasing the reason 11 suite ugrade and just below the download there are rack extensions downloads as well, does it come with the reason 11 or is stuff that is free from reason studios?

So if you want curved fade-ins and -outs you have to layer the clip with an empty clip and use the new crossfade.
Reason is my main DAW and I really liked it since I got on board with version 2.5. I payed a lot of money for updates and didn’t feel bad about it, but now there is the point where I don’t want to anymore. I think it makes sense to wait at least for the next update or even skip two.

hey David I have reason 10 and want upgrade to 11. Is the reason suite the reason plugin only? or is it a full daw? I want to make sure I am upgrade the right upgrade.

Been with Reason since day 1 and have loved it always. I have two wishes that I hope will happen one day and they are that you can send MIDI clock sync out to multiple destinations, and two that we can pull RE’s out of the rack and scale them large so those of us with aging eyesight can see the controls better/larger.

Adding automation points to a line with shift is very helpful when you are riding vocals or main arrangement parts and you don’t want to have to manually relevel every time you add a point. The other improvements are good except the cross fading, which I agree feels clunky. Overall I agree that there are nowhere near enough improvements to the core. I am a strictly Reason user and don’t care about other DAWS. Reason works really well for me, but yeah wait for the .5 update to see if they end up making it worth the money. IMO they should have at minimum included a new instrument.

hi David, i have been trying to buy Reason 11 intro...but before you purchase the software they ask you for a promo code or a reward voucher...i cant figure out where to get this bloody reward voucher....and that's frustrating because i really love reason and without this promo code or voucher i cannot proceed to purchase it....

So, do I hand propellerhead money one last time just to help me transition out, and eat the cost of another DAW? Or find alternatives to the few rack devices I've grown attached to (eat those costs) and bite the bullet straight into a new DAW?

So, when using Reason as VST with another DAW, is there a significant impact on the CPU?

Im using Reason as a standalone DAW for almost 15 years now. It has its Problems in Recording Vocals and Stuff like this, but it can give you a lot of "visual" workflow. Once you get in and really get to know all of it's functions, its as good as any other DAW.

I recently bought Reason 11, and I'm liking it quite a bit. It's easy to sound good in it, it's really "clean", or something. I'm a hobbyist/novice... I'm sorry that you're having the difficulties you're having. Someone said they didn't think Reason sounds "professional"; well, I'm not finding that. If Reason are even contemplating discontinuing their DAW, then they're insane. I'm quite impressed with it, and the features. My main DAW is Reaper, which is a very comfortable environment for me. But as for the moment, I think Reason 11 is really great.
