In this wedding photography editing tutorial we'll look at how to edit photos in Lightroom to deal with harsh lighting conditions and less than ideal situations!

What do you do when you've got to create amazing photos, but the lighting is absolutely horrible?

One of the things that I struggled with when I started wedding photography was figuring out how to edit photos with bad lighting and bad conditions.
Every tutorial I could find always showcased beautiful overcast days with perfect lighting. The photos looked pretty, but the tutorials weren't helpful!

How do you edit photos taken at noon on a sunny day with harsh shadows and blown out highlights?
How do you edit photos with unaesthetic background or clashing colors to make them look good?
What do you do when the wedding you showed up to photograph has terrible lighting conditions?

Inside this weeks tutorial, in this tutorial, you'll learn how to edit photos to rescue blown out highlights, deal with crazy unflattering shadows and fix nasty color tints.

And for anyone wondering...

📸 My camera gear:

Prior to upgrading computers, I was using a 2015 15" macbook pro with 16gb of ram - So you don't NEED the fancy new computer at all... It just speeds up my editing workflow as I'm not waiting so long for previews to load.

I'd recommend going with at least 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage.

Thank you so much! What I learned is, that also pro photographers spend enormous time on post editing. A time which usually is not appreciated by clients who think the job is done after taking the pictures.

I'm watching this while I edit and it's very relaxing.

I love how you explain things and all those little sounds you make, 'cuz' I make them too while I edit :D and, obviously, you are so so generous in sharing all these workflows, as you not only show how to edit but how to shoot, how to fix things, how not to go crazy and cry all the tears in the world because you failed a shot.

me seeing how open you talk about your limitations and your mistakes. Something I'm taking away from this video, is "we aren't trying to make it perfect, just better"

As someone who truly enjoys taking photos but has always been terrified of the post processing process, I can’t begin to tell you how valuable this is. Thank you so very much for sharing your process.

I liked this. It's nice to see the entire editing process of other photographers without any cuts. It blurs out that line that makes people think they can't do it themselves.

Everyone struggles with edits sometimes. Everyone makes editing mistakes. Everyone has published something they weren't 100% happy with.

It's important for people to see that part of the process.

wow! this is awesome. everytime i look at a lightroom tutorial i learn something new, in this case, learnt a lot of things. like vibrance and saturation always confused me, but this makes sense. i think i was able to follow along so good is because I use almost the same workflow as yours. dead-on on the B&W choices. 2 suggestions, if i could.... 1. not sure what recording software you use, but would be great if you could highlight your mouse and clicks, helps keep up with where you are clicking. 2. i usually crop and align images first. I saw on several images, you would spend time adjusting wall colors and other imperfections, and then at end crop it off. looking forward to watching some more of your great videos...

Very nice to see your whole editing process. But many of these raw photos seem... kind of bad? Not just the light, but many of the compositions are a bit of a mess.

I've been watching tons of your videos and have been learning so much! Thank you for all the content you're creating!
One question... why don't you use a flash/artificial light? You could potentially cut your editing time in half if you use one.
