The guardian angel is a being that a supreme authority assigns the duty of watching over you; they are responsible for preventing you from most unseen problems, so having such an entity around you can be of great comfort.

Some people are of the school of thought that their guardian angel is a particular spiritual being that looks out for them, while others believe that their guardian angel is a deceased loved one who is offering guidance. Whichever one may choose to accept, the truth is guardian angels aren't physically seen, and thus it isn't easy to know when they are close by.

I fell asleep while driving and exiting the freeway at a high rate of speed. Then a voice whispered my name loud enough to wake me but not scare me. I awoke just in time to steer away from a concrete telephone pole which my side mirror narrowly missed. I was in a tiny Chevy Chevette at the time. If I hit the pole at that speed in that car, I would have actually met the angel that 'should' have called my name...fortunately for me, he did!
