Why Bandcamp Is Better Than Streaming

In this video I explore key differences between streaming your music versus selling it on Bandcamp. I provide my own examples of how much I made this year through streaming versus Bandcamp and I go over the financial aspect of both approaches.

The track in the background is called '100 Miles To Wales' and it has been written, recorded, mixed and mastered by me. All rights reserved.

Thanks for this. I’d rather support the artist than the music companies.

Downloads will always be superior and selling physical format. Hands down

Wow, it's quite shocking how little the artist actually sees from streams of their music.

the problem is people listen to music through streaming services. They don't download music anymore

Did you mention that streaming works perfectly as well on Bandcamp? And the artist decides is streaming is free for the album or tracks, or only possible after a purchase of digital dl, CD, Vinyl etc.

I've sold dozens of records and made close to $200 US. How many tens of thousands of hits would it take on Spotify to make that much money? Maybe hundreds of thousands? No way. I'll stick with Bandcamp.

I gave up with putting my music out on streaming platforms. I was making very little and couldn't justify the cost. I felt like i was paying out more to get very little in return. I made a bandcamp page instead. But it is so hard to get your music listened too on it. I have some fans. It's as if the system is designed to work against smaller artists. Unless you are well known and got an amazing fan base. Then yeah you might do well. But it's so hard now to get heard. All people want now is mainstream nonsense. And all the money goes to big record labels.

To be honest streaming was never a good idea imagine those streams where vinyl or cd sales most artist are in spotify just for the hype

15 percent sounds like a good deal. They have to get paid to offer all of this. No money up front. 👍 I'm getting started with it.

very insightful. These numbers in that table on headphonesty are ridiculous: most pay less than a cent per stream 🤯
I'll rub it into people's faces when they tell my one more time artists make money from Spotify or Amazon Music. And who's using Qobuz??
I believe there's not one musician I listen to who has 100k streams a month to earn 1000 bucks to support themself.

Streaming platforms are not to be used to make money, only to spread your musical footprint and make connections.

Now do a video on why having your songs deleted by bandcamp for political reasons, even if they are leading the charts, is better than not having them deleted

Can't you also just upload your music straight to spotify for free with an artist account rather than getting it out on all the other alternatives? I've been thinking about doing that to start off alongside a bandcamp account and then maybe later I'll try the bigger distribution to see if I can get more exposure that way.

To get paid for streaming on bandcamp do you need the irsc code?
