Great video. Clearly explained. I worked at Oxford in philosophy, where a lot of these EA people work and honestly I have zero idea how these guys get away with their philosophically weak, poorly argued and dangerous clap trap, how they ever have university positions let alone the accolades and backing that they receive. It's so anti human. Those who have been boasting for a while about how much of their income they give away ... people, be aware that many Oxford fellows have lunch, dinner, and accommodation thrown in on top of their salaries, not to mention the priceless treasure of living in beautiful surroundings with constant drinks receptions, no need for health insurance, and a secure pension. I've heard MacAskill talk about giving away 10 - 15% of his income as if he invented the idea and he's never heard of the age old practice of tithing. Their ignorance and arrogance defy belief.

Thank you for mentioning John Perkin's book, "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man." A book that everyone should read!

Great video but with some challenges. One not stopping the consumption of animal products is selfish and privileged. Especially when it factually proved that other diets are much cheaper and more calorie efficient. The fact that you are most likely in a position to make a change in diet which others may not be able to. Next, I think your conception of long-term is flawed. In that, it doesn't care about people in the present it just puts more focus on long-term goals instead, Which people might not immediately benefit from but that they will benefit much more than immediate action. Also deciding to not give to local causes isn't supposed to be arrogance but instead, be based on more evidence that it is proven with studies that you can do more good giving to foreign or developing countries. Or even long-term future causes. Your critique of SBF in how he uses EA as a justification for his bad actions was wonderful. I think you keep people accountable. Which is Effective Altruism lacks somewhat in challenging and keeping people accountable. Very Much open to discussion and agree that it's important to address these problems and keep accountable. Afterall being called effective altruism you would hope it would be effective,
Good Job Molly

Thanks Molly for providing us with great content! It was super interesting and informative. I totally agree with your perspective on effective altruism. I’ve got nothing super deep that to add, other than effective altruism has a lot of backward thinking. The concept sounds like, they are willing to sacrifice everyone here in now for a future. First of all, that’s called gambling. It should be called ineffective gambling. LOL. I look forward to more awesome content.

Good topic. I believe this goes right to the heart of today's problem. The atheistic worldview is without any absolute moral standards. Not to say they don't exist because they do, but the atheist would argue for subjective moral standards. But Sam's subjective standards of morality still come back to a, “It doesn’t matter how you get what you want as long as you get it.”, way of thinking.

Great video, I have been fed bullsh!t on effective altruism from lots of different people lately and it is nice to hear a dissident voice.

I have t osay though, why do you assume we must eat bugs? I've been thriving as a vegan for three years now and I have never have to consume any sort of bug.
