Throwing a “One Piece” Lidded Jar on pottery wheel

This video shows how to throw the lidded jar in one form. It is usual to throw a lid and a body separately to fit together. This technique shows throw the pot in one closed form then separate into two parts later. It is very interesting method and worth trying. I make many jars in this style and very popular item in my ranges.

Thank you so much! After watching your video I have made four lidded jars. It worked realy well! It is so much easier than making the lid and the jar separated. I will certainly keep making jars this way. Oh, I separated the lid from the jar for the second firing (glazing) and the lids fitted normally after the firing. Very happy with the results.

That was pretty amazing. Not sure if I could throw the closed form yet but I am going to try.

This is a very interesting method to make a jar where you don’t have to make another piece! I love this definitely trying when my new wheel comes in! :D

Great video. Thank you! Can you tell me about the brace you’re using for your arms? I need something like this for better stability when I throw.

This is fascinating, thank you for posting this video. Do you keep the lid on during drying and firing?

After trimming do you leave the lid on while drying to bone dry? Thanks!

I have been having some success with this technique, but one problem I keep finding is that as it dries my lids start S cracking. Any suggestions?
