I swear I change my mind on free will and determinism every two hours 😵‍💫😂

Once a great philosopher said
"MAN CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS, BUT MAN CAN'T WANT WHAT HE WANTS."

As scientific methods assumed determinism, they found it in a sort of tautology. However, as science comes to stochastic and chaotic systems, people still assume determinism.

"Man can do what he wills, but he cannot will what he wills" (You know who said that)

So the best thing would be to aim to see as clearly as possible so that the unfree decisions i make are based off reacting to clearly seeing causes.

The argument against free will implies that there is some 'you' apart from the you who is doing things. So you can say 'you didn't choose to be who you are, ie the person who would make a particular choice', but I /am/ the person who wants to make a particular choice. Saying that that implies I don't have free will is implying there is some 'me' that exists apart from the flesh and blood me who has a particular personality and reacts/responds in a particular way based on circumstance. I /am/ my mind, not some outside observer who watches my mind make choices. I didn't choose to be who I am, but who I am chooses to do things based on who I am.

"Men are mistaken in thinking themselves free. Their opinion is made up of consciousness of their own action, and ignorance of the causes by which they are determined." ~ Baruch Spinoza. Ethics.

If I believe in free will then I was determined to believe in it therefore I will continue to believe in free will lest I change my mind and refute the truth that is determinism.

I think the two complement each other. What we should find is the interplay between the two and not choosing between one or the other.

In my observation, determinism exists but so does free will. BUT, our free will only comes from predetermined events.

Determinism has the upper hand but free will also plays it's part.

We are not as free as we think we are, but our intelligence gives us some room for free will

the feeling of free will is there when our will is unconflicted

You may claim you don't have free will but everyone else believes you have free will. The fact that things may prompt or influence the decisions we make doesn't change the fact that we make decisions.

We can’t choose when we hungry but we can choose to eat or not, isnt that free will ?

I agree with this, but I was wondering though. Lets say I choose a random number between One and a thousand. I would really wonder what triggered my eventual choice.

The utter need for man to have freedom, his never ending desire for it, is quite a good proof I think for its existence

Being able to reason can override physical determinism to a degree. In psychology it’s very hard to pin point what caused a behavior which is why we look for a correlation and not a causation.

Exactly, but people still find ways to circle around.

I think this argument is putting the effect before the cause. The same thing can be said the other way around. “Because I wanted it, certain principles of determination were put in motion”. The chicken or the egg argument. Absolute determinism reduces humans to puppets.
